I am committed old timers (who know me to flake on this project), and I'm gonna keep posting to Prove it!!!

Friday I picked up a weiand xelerator intake for only $100...I think it'll be a good match for my aluminum gt40 heads.

I've got it mocked up here with my efi valve covers. I noticed my ford racing valve covers have bosses on the other cover and mounting holes for baffles on both, and the tall neck is pressed in, so I can convert my existing efi valve covers over for carb use...

I'll RTV everything up next week, then I'll assemble my holley 600 next week and finish installing the aod x member, and try and get the headers installed too next week, so stay tuned all.

So back at it today.. I had a decent pair of EFI valve covers, and wanted a pair of carb'd valve covers...

I wasn't getting any bites for anyone wanting to buy the efi ones, so The DIY spirit came back.

After looking them over, I realized the ford racing valve covers have bosses on both of them (one on each end)...not only that, but the other valve cover already has the mounts for the baffle there.

I looked at the filler neck, and saw it was pressed in....

One BFH later, the filler neck was on the bench. Since the hole remaining in the efi valve cover was larger than needed for the rubber grommet...I did some measuring, and found that the filler neck is the right diameter for the pcv rubber grommet.

I trimmed the ring off of the filler neck, tapped it into place, and it's now perfect for the rubber grommet for the breather or PCV.

I then took a hole saw to the other side 1 1/8"...drilled through the existing boss, and the rubber pcv grommet fits perfect.

Now I am gonna try to polish them back up and make em look good too

Here is a few more shots of my low budget valve cover conversion

Here is my latest progress over this week. (mods, not sure if this should be moved to the projects section?)

Dropped the gas tank finally after having a clog for two decades. To my delight, it was NOT rusted!! Just lots of sediment and crud, old bits of filter from the pickup tube, etc. Gonna finish cleaning the crap out of it, blow out my fuel lines, then re install it.

Next, onto Jamies Doug Thorley ceramic shorty headers. I bought them when he first released them, and have been sitting on them for a couple of years now. (Maverick has an AOD and power steering)

I must say (and I've had a lot of headers over the years)..these are by far the best built and crafted headers I've seen yet. the flanges are SUPER thick, the tubes are nice and thick, and they sculpt the body lines like art. Money well spent here!

They don't drop right in, but it did only take me an hour from start to finish...I pulled the trans mount nuts, then the dr side motor mount stud...jacked up under the oil pan with a 2x4, installed the header, then moved onto the pass side. Went very, very smoothly.

20151026_183950.jpg Back from the dead. Been working on this quite a bit now. Fixed my sender and float, installed it with new gasket and hose, new fuel pump, accessories installed, this thing may fire up next week after years and years 20151027_135949.jpg
