I don't know if it's legal to get rid of the side marker lights, but I highly doubt a cop would ever bother you about it.

Personally, I'm keeping my antenna and side maker lights. I'm planning to go with an electric antenna. And I like the side maker lights since you just don't see newer cars with lights like that. And the added visibility of the car at night to other drivers with the 2825 bulbs is a plus.

    Yes.. it is legal!
There is no rule in the DMV book about it(NOT EVEN IN CALIFORNIA)

    Ya... WHAT HE SAID!
Because.. no cop(better not say that, there may be some Comet/Maverick Savy cops) would know that the lights were there in the first place!
And... they wouldnt question you even if they did know, because they dont really care... unless they are having a very bad day!

Well, the antenna is gone for sure. I could do an electric, but where I'm going, you wont need a radio:drive: .

If I got pulled over for no side marker lights, I would just play dumb like I never knew they were there.

"I don't know, it was like this when I bought it." :D

I personally like the lights but thats just me. Trim and script always gets the deep six on my cars. I also get rid of the antenna. It looks like crap in my opinion. Hid them under the fender or under the dash and it will still work great for FM.

I would not powder coat the bumpers because it will not hold up like paint. I dont care what people claim, I have powder coated stuff and after a few years, it all looks like crap. The black will dull. Why spend money on powder coating when you already have paint. JMO

I think all cars from 1968 up have marker lights on the sides. If this is a street car I would advise you to make sure it's not illegal. Is the picture in the post your car. just asking because I noticed it has a Maverick grille, hood and bumper on it. It appears to have a good body also.

Save the Vinyl Top trim if you are removing it .... that stuff is pretty hard to find for folks that need or want it ...

Actually, save ALL the trim, marker lights, everything...someone someday will be looking for one or another.

I think it will all look very good. I personally removed the wheel trim, as it made it look more "hotrod" and less "granny" I still have all my trim (except for the vinyl top trim that I sold to someone on here pretty soon after I took it off).

I think your car is straight enough to be black...at least from the pics I see. Plus, it sounds like you are taking it to someone with some knowledge, if they are filling in holes, and spending a month doing it all. Not a Maaco job. You should have an even nicer looking car when you get it back.

I can't wait to see pics of the final product...
