Im using a set of Dougs Shorty headers with my Gateway Performance steering rack. It appears you have given yourself more room with your setup than I have with mine so the shorties should be a cakewalk to put in there.

So basically, you have to seal around that tube and then put the cowl back on right?

If you seal the cowl solid piece without visible vents, can you run into any problems? I think I may have to do that to my 1973 comet gt. Let me know. Thanks.

If you are asking if you can eliminate the openings and cover them with flat metal, the answer is yes. They are only there for fresh air. The water goes around the hats and the air circulates over the top of them and into your car.

    Hi Dennis:
You've gone this far .. ( nice work by the way ) .. why not "Seal" the cowl vent area and eliminate an area where
trash and water can enter into this repaired area. You've seen the sealed look at NPD and I can attest that it "works"
..We've done Five Cars so far .. There is a "step-tool" from Eastwood mentioned on my website that makes the panel
placement very accurate and easy to weld. Its listed in the article which also shows how we performed the operations on the cars I mentioned. www.cameoclub.com..Hope to see you at this upcoming NPD Show in Ocala,Fl.

If you cover the vents there are still areas where water can enter the cowl, around the windshield wipers and the lower windshield channel has drains that go into the cowl. So if you don't fix the rusted and leaking lower cowl (around the stove pipes) then you may still get wet feet when it rains even if you close off the vents.

I've done that exact samemod on my own cowl vents - just to let you know your link to the Cameo Club had an extra work stuck at the end and will not connect :thumbs2:

Hey Chip. I bought a home in Live Oak, FL but I'm still in MD trying to sell this one. Once it sells, I'm outta here. Live Oak is only about 100 miles from Ocala so if I'm down there by January I will definitely be at the show.

I hope you can make it to the show. We're going to try and make it a mini meet this year...

The Florida Gang gets a new member .... :thumbs2: That is a very nice area you are moving to, and the climate is in a zone were you still have a hint of four seasons. Best of luck getting down here soon.

That was my original intention to be near my younger daughter but the place I found was exactly half way between her and my mom & brothers down in Bradenton. And the price was way too good to pass up too.

Beautiful job on the quarter panel Dennis - I remember that score you got in 09 - my Dale Doll refinished doors came from the "used" section of that haul :thumbs2:
