I run Moser 33 spline and a full spool. No problems yet, in about 7 or 8 years. I went with the 33's because Moser warranteed them then for 10 years, and they were the same price as the 28 and 31 spline axles.
ive said it many times. moser spends more on there advertiseing than on there product. ive seen that alot with moser. price wise you will spend within $10 to get beter axles like strange or markwilliams. we use alot of strange axles at work. you definitly need to increase your spline count. you can get a spool axle combination package from strange or markwilliams. dutchman is a good axle also.
you must be making crazy power ,ive had 28 spline mosiers for 2 years , we pull 1.50s 60ft times,i had a set of c-clip in my 10 bolt nova ,we pulled 1.38 to 1.42 60ft , and i never hurt any of them, mosier has a cal. to figure if your motor will work with the axels, man i bet you got a bad set .....wow
I would see if they will warantee them. I mean, it never hurts to ask. I understand that they are 28 spline, but that seems unreasonable after only 20 passes.
I have Moser 31 slines in my car but my 60`s ain`t but 1.77s.....Until the new converter finally goes in. Don Graham, What kinda 60fts. do you get with your car ?
Actually the pinion gear has several teeth missing. The reason I tore it all down was because of a loud whine upon deceleration. It just started. There were 1/4" diameter chunks of metal lying in the case. I'm just glad it didn't explode. Now I will upgrade to a 9" with 33 splines thanks to everyones input. :Handshake
Oh... I didn`t realize you have an 8" axle... To Clarify , Mine is a Nine inch with 31 spline Moser axles.
MIke, My 60's are in the mid 1.70s. I don't try to get it any quicker as the car runs in the 11.90s, in good air, at Firebird. My top end MPH is about 115. My class lower limit is 12.0 so I'm right at the top of my class now.
im running a 8inch with no problems ,id check with mosier ,they are good people,i bet if its there axel problem they will replace it ,it should have not did that with your short times ,even stock axels wouldnt do that with 1.60s short times ,most have gotten 1.50 flat short times with the weight of a maverick ,on stock axels,i went to mosiers because ,we are going to throw on alum heads and bigger cam next year after my son finshes high school class this year ,it has a 12.0 cutoff, and 7.50 1/8th cutoff , he has won the championship 2 years in a row ,going for his 3 rd ......
all us maverick owners are sandbaggers, we dont want all the other types to give up ,and we dont want anyone to know what we really run......ok ....maybe i shouldnt have said that ,now all the others know were sandbagging ...lol
I have Moser axles and my 60's are from 1.35 to 1.45 (1.45+ bad day) and have never had any problems. Once you go 9 inch you will never look back. I used an 8 inch for about 3 years. 9 inch parts are easier to find, stronger and cheaper to boot. The easiest way to convert to a 9 inch is to get a good 9 inch housing at a local junk yard, take out your old rear end and have your end tubes cut off your old 8 inch and put on the 9 inch. Summit sell the new spring perches and just have the machine shop mount them too. Make sure when you put it back in to check pinon angle so you get too much or not enough. Now you can use your backing plates and brakes from your stock setup and a 28 spline axle is a 28 spline axle doesn't matter if it's out of a 8 inch or 9 inch. Ford 28 spline axles are pretty strong but Moser makes a much better axle then Ford. Go 9 inch, it will be one of the best things you've done for your car. As aways just my .02 Bossmav
