Ok, well since it's too cold outside for me to actually work on my car I figured I will start gathering parts. I ordered some new wheels. I got some. 17x8 American racing torq thrust wheels in 4.5" back spacing. I also got some nito 555's. 245/45 for the front and 275/40 for the rears. I know the rear back spacing may be questionable, but I'm hoping worse case is I have to run a small spacer. I guess we will find out! Lol. Next up is my maverickman hood. And also for you guys hoarding all the small bumper parts, help a brother out! I'm hoping to at least gather the paintable parts before we start body work this spring.
I think my torq thrust II's are that size, if you look in my project thread, there should be a picture on how they fit, if not I can send you some.
I think those will look great and I should be fine with the 4.5" BS then. I bought the original finish on mine, so I won't have to keep polishing them as much as you
4.5" backspacing seems a bit too much for the front, but I'm not sure with the 17s. I guess you'll let us know.
Haha... I guess I'll find out for sure! I've read a lot of people using that back spacing with an 8 inch wheel, but people use all kinds of different things! Lol worse case scenario I'll have to run a little spacer, or I'll have two wheels for sale
Just picked up a rear end out of a 99 Crown Vic. Plan on swapping the discs over on to my rear. Getting ready to order some brakes for the front now, but still a little undecided. Was really looking at the kits from CSRP. Either the stock style swap, or with the sn95 rotors and calipers. What do you guys think?
I have the 98-02 rear discs to put on my car also. I just did the same conversion on my friend's Pinto which has a Maverick rear end in it. Not a bad deal at all. I will be running stock Maverick front brakes. The piston diameter of the Maverick front calipers is the same as the front Crown Vic ones (2.60") IIRC.
Good to know Paul. I'm sure the stock Granada brakes will do what I need them to just fine. What master cylinder did you guys use then?
I'd stay away from the stock stuff if you are building a hot rod of any kind. Vintage Venom, or Mustang Steve, both make kits to use the newer stuff. The factory brakes are ok, but if you are going to the expense of having nice wheels, may as well back them up with something beyond stock. http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html Vintage Venom appears to be offline?
I like that cobra brake set up, but have to shop around for a good source for the calipers and rotors. I did a quick search and it seems to be about $700 for the caliper and rotor package. I'll have to keep doing some research.
Napa was selling the rebuilt calipers for pretty cheap, some had the "Cobra" removed, maybe check with them.
