I'm more concerned about the inner wheel house. Mine scraped when turning into the driveway with only 235/60-14s on 14x7" wheels with 4-1/4" backspacing.
How does everyone else get away with it in a lowered maverick? I'm not being condescending, I'm truly asking. I've seen people with wide wheels and big meats that are tucked. I know some have full custom rear suspension, but not everyone. I guess I'll start with what I got and then make adjustments where I need to.
i have 275-45-17s. my fender lips are rolled and pushed out. i took a 2x4 and put it on the inside of the fender lip. then took a scissor jack and put it against the frame rail and pushed against the 2x4. its pushed out to where the lower lip is almost flush to the body line above it. heres some pic of the ride height and pushed out fenders heres some pics that show before and then the after results it is not noticeable unless you know what to look for. before i put a pan hard bar on, the rear tires would rub in really hard turns on the inner fender.
Thank you very much for the info Bryant! How much is yours lowered? Yours sits exactly how I want mine to sit.
i dont know what the stock height was. it has coil overs on the front that allow me to adjust the front height and the rear is 4 leaf espo springs with 1.5" lowering blocks i think.
Mine is also like Bryant's how the lip is pushed out and rolled lip, I have 275/35/18 and the fender is almost even with the rim lip right now I also have about the same amount of clearance on the leaf spring side and have never had a problem there, I however did have to beat the hell out of the inner rear wheelhouse at the front, I think Grabbergt wrote a tech article on cutting and adding a section and making it look clean.
Well, I got to bring the car home yesterday. I still need to lower the rear about an inch, but it rides great and there is no tire rub anywhere. Next we have to paint the hood a satin black and then drive it for a bit to see if there are any little things that pop up. I also still have my cobra front brakes to install, but our big car show/cruise is next weekend, so I will hold off till after that to do the brakes.
