Well, I said I bought the car to learn, and I have been shown, it's time for a quality installer. I don't have the confidence to do a quality job. Thanks for the tips and advice, I'll stick to the mechanical and body work. Ken
Here's an idea someone came up with doing to my Maverick before I got ownership. It's some kind of lightweight carpet glued to the sheet metal...It would look better, maybe, IF it was cleaned.
I have thought of doing that very thing. I have done a Camaro headliner before and thought of doing something like it to my Comet. It came out pretty good but I am not a profesional. I bet the newer generation headliner guys can do something like that and make it look half decent. If my headliner replacement doesn't go as planed I will probobly end up with something simular. Looks like you also gain head room
Ken, headliner materials don't cost much. I have seen it come with a foam backing in different thickness also. Then it will look automotive instead of home improvement . J/K, I know that sometimes the Lowes ideas can work, done it myself.
Gene, Anything is an improvement, home/auto. I could even hit a fabric store. I'll stop by PepBoys to see what they have. Ken
My headliner update. I took the old headliner out, without destroying it. I went to my local fabric store and bought 3 yards of Tan vinyl material. I am going to have to sew a couple small corners. I am hoping it will be a smooth install. Something different but not butchered. When it is completed, I'll post pictures good or bad. Melvin's is just 60 miles around the corner, if this doesn't work. Ken
Ken; if you end up getting a headliner from Melvin's, call Vickie a couple days ahead, as she has to order the Maverick parts, unless they have started stocking them. Last time I checked, they have to be ordered.
Any tips on re-doing the headliner part of the inside of my 1971 Comet? The plastic/foam/material was all falling out and falling apart so I removed it. What's the best material(s) to use? Any tips on techniques? Thanks! View attachment 30838
