Hello all I have a 1970 maverick...was in mid restoration so body and interior are perfect aside from few details but.... The motor and trans are rebuilt but I'm missing basically everything for motor have block head and intake manifold but that's it. I also have a spare 302 laying around and a aluminum block aluminum head Chevy 5.3 LS what way should I go with this car it's in awesome shape guy who had it before was a pure Ford originality kind of guy.
... it's all about how much money, time and what you can do yourself... I've had a hopped up 250, a stroked 347 and now a LS 5.3.
Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! Keep your maverick Ford powered. With all due respect to Frank's fine work, if you install that LS the Chevy fans won't give your Maverick any more respect and you will alienate half the Ford fans. In the final analysis it is your car, do with it as money and time allow.
I use to feel the same way about sticking a Chebby motor in a Ford but not anymore Frank car sounds like a Ford and the LS motors look so clean wiring wise I know other Ford motors look that clean also but you have the LS already. But yes true Ford fans will not give you the respect that it deserves
Will LS motor fit w/o tower modifications? More work and skills needed getting it in place and operational. I have no issues w/ LS swap -- I think they are great for simplicity, value and aftermarket support.
So he's supposed to build his car to appease Ford fans? I say do what you want with your car. Especially a Maverick. The LS is tough to beat, but requires lots of modification to the car to fit.
Welcome from Portland, OR. Figuring out what you can spend, and researching a plan to get it done.....at least mostly how you want it.....is important. Starting without the ability to finish.....now that is worth planning to avoid. How do you want to use it? Take your time to figure it out as that is part of the fun.
