Ok, Someone from the Torino forum answered my post. He seemed to know the whole story on these. He said they were only for pre-production models only and thats the reason the're not in the parts list. He said the box code was just a general part# and the part# on the badge was the true #. I took another look at those #'s and I was wrong in my earlier post. They have 2 #'s DOGB-16098 &DOGB-16099 . He said that was left & right. Also they were not on the Cyclone CJ,but the Spoiler. As to how I have them in a package he stated Ford had to make a certain number of them to justify making the mold ,but was.probably disposed of after they were canceled. So according to him they were made for the Cyclone Spoiler pre-production/magazine cars.Here is a pic he sent me of catalog photos.[/IMG]
sounds just like what jmgford had mentioned earlier was right then. Also goes along with the Cyclone Spolier ads shown around the net too. Funniest thing about all those pic's though?.. it looks like every one of them is placed slightly different the other. Gotta love Fords, eh? lol
not to hijack but i have a 351cj in my torino is there any difference between that and a regular 351c? i never understood the CJs?
In your year (1973), the 351 CJ was the name given to the 4v version. It had different heads and camshaft from the 2v version, a 4-bolt main block (in most instances), and a high-stall 10-1/2" torque convertor if coupled to an automatic transmission.
& I would have thought the CJ emblem would have been below the 429... Same deal on the '69 Cobra, Snakes were all over the fenders and the rear one was on the lower part of the panel on the early versions(like mine) then moved above the center trim...
Plus some of the formal roof '69 Cobras had the Fairlane script on the deck lid as well, and some did not.
It's been far too long.. but I'm not sure about the "different heads from the 2v version" though. Too lazy to search right now.. but IIRC(since my buddy had one for years).. the 351 CJ did actually use the 4v ports.. but had an open chamber design. I know all the old racers used to find the 4 bolt CJ motors and junk the heads to swap over the closed chambers and then built the snot out of them. Which is why they are harder than hell to find in stock bore config's these days.
4V Clevelands used different heads from 2v. '70-'71 4v were closed chamber and '72-'73 4v were open chamber, but all were different from the 2v heads. All the 4v heads have a "4" cast right into the upper corner of the head.
that's what I thought. my bad.. after looking back I see that I must have misinterpreted what you said.. .. as meaning that the heads were also of the 2v variety.. where I now realize you were only speaking of the camshaft itself being of "2v variety".. and generalizing about "different heads".
I don't understand what you are saying, but plain and simple: On 351 Clevelands, the 2v & 4v engines did share heads. The combustion chamber size differed from year to year, but the 4v version always had itsr own head. Aftermarket 4v intakes (such as Edlebrock) are even different, depending on whether they are going to be used on an original 4v or 2v engine.
