I have after market clones on my Sprint so the center hole is big enough to fit the disc. I do have a set of originals that I had on my 77 and you do have to open the center hole to fit. I'm luck in that my work has an in house machine shop so I just took them there. If that wasent an option, I would have just taken a diegrinder do them.

Mavaholic, I thought about doing that but I was afraid it might weaken the wheel too much. Did yours work OK after you machined them to fit? Was there any of the center hole flange left after machining?

Its very close to fitting. All the strength is around the lug nuts, not the center hole. That just helps to align it. I believe I only needed to take an 1/8" out so there was still a little lip left on the center opening. I dont have any pictures of the wheels after the machining. Only ones with the caps on. I sold my 77 so the wheels are now on my Comet GT.

I think that nothing beats the look of the stock hubcaps and trim rings on a 71-2 comet gt.

I totally agree....if your going for the stock(sleeper;) ) look.
My favorite is the ones Craig had on his Grabber he sold to Tom who sold to Dave.
And yes it does suck that they are only in 14's.

I would think that the dog dish center cap would fit a 15 inch rim....why wouldn't it....the bolt pattern is the same.....you would just have to buy a 15 inch trim ring. Am I wrong? :hmmm: Hope not cause thats what I was going to do...

I like the look you have on the car now. I've got Cragar SS wheels on my '73, but the chrome is peeling off them. (They've been on the car and exposed to the weather for 19 years) I'm saving up for a set of Magnum 500's for it, but every now and then I'm tempted to just get another set of the Cragars.

On our '72, I'm going to go with the trim rings & center caps.

Personally, I dont like looking at lug nuts. Thats one reason I like the GT wheels so much. The aftermarket versions are available in 15"

    answer to question

The hubcaps will fit the 15 inch wheels. I installed a set on my old '68 F-100. You could find trim rings for a 15 as well. I like the 14 inch wheels because the comet is a small car and they are proportioned for it. I sent a picture of a wrecked 73 gt to Craig at Maverick heaven. It is on the last page(white with orange stripes). There is a 15 inch wheel on the front and it looks kind of funny; not saying that the right tire size wouldn't help though. When I was thinking about aftermarket rims, I liked the look of the Shelby 5-spoke wheel. They look cool. You can all probably see a picture of them on a shelby parts website like tony branda or something. Later. -Mike

Earlier on this thread I stated that I wasn't too keen on the 500's....after further review....I like'em. However, like I said before...I'm gunna get a 15 inch steel for the back and go with 255 60 15....and keep the 235 60 14 on the front....head up to Carlise and check out all you guy's set-ups. I'll stick with the sleeper....just to screw with the young kids around here that think they're driving something fast...hee hee hee :D :D
