Guys, I need some help fast.. I think that I have my motor-mounts reversed and need a couple pics of the distance between a 302 and the firewall. It looks like I have about 4 or 5 inches between mine and I think that is to much. The tube on the z-bar also is not perpendicular to the frame, it points towards the front of the car on the motor side. The tranny mount seems to be fine. Anyway, the pics or other info would be much appreciated... Thanks all. JP
not sure any of these will help....but best of my memory. #6 plug is almost lined dead up with the shock.
Thanks for the pictures. Hard to tell if it is much different than mine though...I will look closer. Dennis, Does that mean that the long ear on the motor mount goes toward the rear? JP
If you're referring to the isolator that bolts between the motor and the frame mount, they are both the same, so they go in opposite directions, there's only one way they face the right direction to bolt to the motor. Like Dennis said, the offset on the frame mounts goes to the rear of the car. Here's a couple greasy shots from before I pulled my old motor. I have some good pics of the mounts in the car without the motor at home that I will post if you still need them when I get home. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=8471
that looks okay, but... Ok....It looks like my motor and frame mounts are fine. Its a little relief but I still have the problem that I was hoping this was related to. The cross tube on my z-bar is canted towards the front of the car. It should be straight across between the motor and frame. Here is a small drawing of how mine looks. I even pulled the frame side mount and slotted the bracket to slide it forward and it still does not line up. Does anyone have a suggestion? Am I missing a bracket? I am at a loss here. I guess I should have just put an AT in... JP
Is the motor sitting level? There are motor mounts out there that will bolt on your motor but make it nose high which will make your Z bar angled. Does your piviot ball bolt directly to your motor block? Where did the frame pivit come from?
Need more info. Did you do a I6/302 swap? There was a post that dhines started a couple weeks/months back about the Z bars. If I was reading his post correctly the I6 and 302 Z bars are slightly different.
Yes, the motor is sitting level. The pivot ball does bolt directly to the block. The frame side pivot mount is off an I6 and the z-bar is a combined I6 and 69 Mustang 351 item. I believe that I shortened the I6 tube and welded on the lower arm from the 69 mustang......
You need to move the frame side mount forward ... the z-bar shaft should be perpendicular to both the frame and engine ... Looks like you're gonna have to do some additonal mods ... Here is a picture of a 8 vs. 6 frame mount side by side ... you can see the the 8 mount is closer to the front of the car which would correct the problem in your picture ....
Sorry ... unfortunately this is my spare. Besides ... you would need a v8 z-bar and engine side mount to go with it since it requires a z-bar with a much larger inside diameter than your original Six cylinder. Was the z-bar you modifed a 200 or a 250 z-bar? The 250 cross-shaft is actually the same diameter as the V8 .... The 200 is quite a bit smaller. I don't understand why Ford made the larger engines z-bar more heavy duty since the amount of pressure required to release the clutch is the same.
I suggest you get a Mustang V8 frame side mount repop. It uses the same bushings as a Maverick 6-cylinder mount and I would guess it also sits further forward .... EDIT: Scratch that idea .. I just looked at a Mustang Catalog ... V8 and 6 are the same on a Mustang. I guess the Mustang engine mounts compensate for the offset and the Maverick mounts do not ..
AH ha!!! Your picture Dan, jarred my memory. When I first put a V8 in mine, I used all my 6 cyl linkage which I had to modify. Looking at your picture, I seem to remember cutting large holes in the frame bracket to get it up on the proper place, then bolted it down with fender washers to cover the big holes. (I didnt have a welder back then)
