I believe so. The tube that came out frm the diffuser is 2.5". I have not put it together cuz winter set in b4 I cud get it re-installed. The tubing fits on the original vents as well as the new ones. I did a heater AC box re-condition - all of that stuff will have to go back b4 the package tray.
To cold here to even think abt doing it now. I like the new vents - no more rattles. Im sure the old ones probably won't rattle if felt is replaced.
Im not that interested in stock apperance - more concerned abt what I like and what works for me...

    yep....w/no problem...
i don't see any way to remove the ball without removing it. even if it pops out, when you put the new felt in i don't think it will pop back in..

    ...:drive:...

    Update

Well, that took all of about 10 minutes

I laid the vents face down on the solid work bench, took my long drift punch and a small ball peen hammer and tapped the metal retainers until they began to move out of the vent. Then I held them in my hand, up against my coat and just tapped them lightly side to side until they fell right out- - - -Piece of cake :bday:

Now what do I use for the replacement felts? Anything from a Mustang supply house or hardware store that will work?

I still get amazed out quick everyone jumps into these threads to help you out with solutions to what you may think is a problem- - -and it turns out that it isn't afterall :dancing:

It's also amazing what Dawn dishwashing liquid and an old toothbrush will do to 41 year old parts - makes them look good as new again :yup:

Well, a little wire wheel on the steel parts and hardware helped too.

    Just some more shiny things

The ball retainers cleaned up nicely with some fine sandpaper. A coat of metalic silver makes them and the mounting plates nice and shiny :yippee:

Maybe this week, I can get to a craft store for some felt and get these put back together.

    One More Question

I want to order my 2 1/2 inch flexible duct from Nostalgic Air Parts.

They sell it by the foot and I have no ducting to measure. I was wondering how much will I be needing. :hmmm:

Hey, I know you can't see them but I know they're there :Woot:

AND------If you didn't sell me these great parts, I wouldn't have to make them new again- -so it's your fault :hide:

So Craig, how many feet of 2 1/2 do I need?

    :D

I would say 4' should be plenty. Maybe buy 5' to be safe.

Spinning up this old thread... I just picked up an A/C package tray and need to restore the round vents and pockets. Any chance some of the missing pictures from this thread were saved off on someone's PC?
