Rust is the main reason I changed to the Comet, it never had any other then a little surface where the factory never got any paint on it..... I know the Mav was repaired as well as it could be, but it still had repairs and I prefer my car not to have any rust repairs.....
I know....my 74 is from BC...and it was worse 25 years ago...I just told my wife, after this one is done, I will start my 74 Grabber...and it is way worse than this car..but Ive been buying NOS parts for that car..then if I make it that far, I will never buy another rusty car..ever!!
I grew up in Colorado and up until I started to work on the east coast and upper mid west I truly did not really know what a rust car was. It is amazing that a new car in 3 years can be half rotted away. I thought the car that I was working on was bad but I truly am luck that it really is pretty much rust free. I also have learned that certain peoples explanation of NOS or excellent shape when buying parts is determined on what part of the country you live in. By the way nice job Dave. I can't imagine have more than one car on my plate.
So, today was another rainy day, so more paint stripping.... I feel like a traitor....but since I can't buy PPG DP-90 locally anymore...I found this at a new local supplier...I've been reading everything I can about it on every website I could find, and all the reviews have been good, so we'll see...
Dave, For what it is worth I have been playing with the new DP-LV. I LOVE it. In fact I like it better than the DP-LF that you can't get anymore. DP-LV is lower VOC, but has a higher solid content so it does get better build. And you can actually sand it. Compared to -LF I think it is much better. I have already used it on my Maverick. Although, nothing wrong with trying out new stuff like you have now.
I went and tried to get some LV, But they were outta stock....the supplier that sells PPG locally is really a flop, they bought out Painters Supply, where I use to buy all my stuff...I even contacted SPI, and asked them about any compatibility issues with the areas that I had already used the DP on, and they said their product is very compatible with PPG...I guess time will tell....it's a tough switch for me...I'm pretty brand loyal.
Waiting on some parts to come in, so I decided to clean up all the welds along the top of the cowl, in the windshield channel. Brushed in two coats of epoxy. Tomorrow I''l finish off the bottom side, with some POR 15.
