Two little holes....that's all there was, once I cut the soft stuff out, I was left with this:

But as hard as I try and just fix this car the simple way, I can't...either go all the way, or it's going to bug me..:)

Get it now or deal with it later ...

I know that there will always be "other stuff" to do later.... ;)

It will be easier to patch if you cut it into a rectangle. Then you just cut the replacement and start tacking it in. (it looks like it will have one bend on the left side)

I hope you are kidding about glassing that ...

Car Craft just had a great article on repairing floors, perhaps 2 issues ago. They may have it online.

The gist of it is to make the patch oversize, but the correct shape. Tack weld it in a few places, and then, using a really thin cut-off wheel in a grinder, cut through both layers, a small section of a time. That way it is an exact profile on both piece. Peel away the excess from the area that you are working. Pry the lower piece up with a thin screwdriver, and tack the new cut together. Work your way around the piece with tacks, and then come back and stitch it all together.

I wish I had seen this article about a year ago. My repair would have gone much faster.

I actually ordered this stuff I saw in a magazine today, you mold it to shape, put it in the sun, and it hardens, then I'll just use some sheet metal screws.

Gee, I feel guilty after reading this thread, My poor Comet has been neglected too long. Glad somebody is making progress. Just wondering why you did not replace the entire cowl pan with your doner. Think that would have been faster, not that it matters now.

Once I got about half way through the process, that did occur to me....:(
Then I saw those pictures Craig posted, and it would have been just as east to split it down the sides..
Anyways, for those that know me, I will be welding patches into the floor, that I cut out of a donor car :D

Looks like the Explorer has sealed the deal for this car, I was searching around for a mod motor cop car, but the deal was too good to pass up.
    So, it's:
5.0L & 4R70W with the 8.8 rear all out of the Explorer, fuel injection and all. :) (I'm a little excited)
    The donor:

It's the closest thing to a Mustang Cobra, I can find around here, and alot cheaper!!
