MY own personnel opinion is that this is being blown way out of proportion. John has a vision of what a club should be that does not follow what the MCCI is about. So he starts a new club to go with his vision. Thats a good thing. A bunch of members who support the MCG's vision more than the MCCI, will go with him. Thats a good thing for both clubs. Some of us will join every Maverick/Comet club that comes along. Now there are 2 choices on where to go for an almost week of fun. Those who favor the MCCI will likely come to our event. Those who favor the MCG will go to that event. Those undecided will likely go to which ever is closest. As long as you go to one of them and have fun, its all good!!! Choice is a good thing.

I didn't start the Roundup....it was actually started by Chuck Stalnaker when he was President.

I agree, but it would also be nice that if it were your choice to attend both, then you could do so. And if they weren't back to back I would be one of the ones that would likely try to make them both. My kids are raised and I'm finally getting the time and money I want to spend on my cars so it would not be out of the question for me to attend two large round-ups/gatherings. If they are the same date, then I can only choose one or the other and in that case "somebody" loses and that's not what this is suppose to be about. Just my :2cents:

There was not a lack of Opinions......but a lack of PROPOSALS. If one doesn't like where the Roundup is being held....then turn in a proposal to host one.

WELL I DO KNOW OF A FEW OPINIONS THAT WERE MISSED BUT THAT'S ANOTHER TOPIC. BUT I DO UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM AS FAR AS PROPOSALS GO. I SUBMITTED MY VOTE/OPINION ON THE '07 ROUND-UP AND DONE MY PART. I WAS JUST MERELY STATING MY OPINION LIKE EVERYONE ELSE....:yup:

-I AM JUST STATING THAT I UNDERSTAND WHY JOHN WOULD WANT TO START ANOTHER GROUP WITH SOME DIFFERENT BELEIFS AND STANDINGS, FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE-

I'm not a member of any group or org but some posts that have been posted make me feel like an outsider even coming here.
I for one don't have the time or gas money to travel accross the country (wish I did), so it's the local shows for me, regardless of who's there.
Alot of what I have read sounds like personal stuff and not supportive by any means.
I would have locked this thread after the 1st or 13th post my self.

I certainly see your point there because I am in the same position. I'm not saying I would or wouldn't, I'm just saying I could.
I dont really see where anything has gotten out of hand. There has been very good civil discussions on valid points. If threads get locked every time people strongly disagree, we might be posting in the parts wanted/for sale sections only. :D

I agree. I just don't like when people spat. Especialy over what seems like personal stuff or ill feelings towards another persons desire to be who he/she can be. Guess i'm wishing we lived in a perfect world where we could all be one happy family(Mav/Comet family).
As far as the thread being civil... people can only bite their toung for so long before they start in. I saw motivation till the 14th post.
Not trying to be negative, just feel for those who seem to be on the defense all the time.:Handshake

    Did someone say "popcorn"???

I read the first 4 pages, then skimmed the last two, and noticed that the posts got longer.

Who wants to take bets on how long this thread gets before it is LOCKED!!!

Personally, I have no comment. It is all too political, and I hate politics.

Friends...anybody? Bring a beer or 6, and hang out at my house...we will talk and look cars, and call it a club :D

Very well said. I think that is exactly what John had in mind when he decided to start the new club.

    Interesting topic, all to common.

I'm new here, can't believe the similarities here and over on a couple of the Cougar sites that I belong.

The National Cougar club also has a lot of dissention in the ranks.

I will share some of the issues that we are going through.

We are basically a Classic Cougar group 1967-1973.
    • Focus being on 1967-1970 models. So the 1971-73 guys feel a little slighted.
    • Been suggested to expand to all years of Cougar. That is fine, but the newer model Cougar owners have no set of judging rules for their years of cars. Nobody wants to run with the ball so to speak about concours judging criteria for later model Cougars.
    • Traditionally the National Cougar club is about concours cars and judging. This is a turnoff for those of us with more than three modifications or changes to our cars. Most new members are more resto-mod types or have semi custom tastes.
    • Usually two National shows per year, east coast and west coast. These shows are sponsored by one of the local clubs. Always held in summer months July or August. Sanctioned by the National club, meaning the show must have concours judging. Several classes, Senior Concours, Concours, and usually a modified or non-stock class, these classes are mostly at the discretion of the host club. One of the problems are most clubs don't have the means or member support to plan a large event. Normally 80-125 Cougars in attendence. The National club contributes money towards the show $1000 or so, the balance to be raised or funded by the host club. Trophys often times are sponsored by other local clubs or individuals. Raffle prize money is a huge money maker for the host clubs.
    • The National Cougar Club of America has been labled a 'Do nothing' club. A lot of it has to do with the way the charter was formed, i.e. rules of decision making, etc. We also have a president that seems to have good intentions, but no perseverence to get things done.
    • Lots of bickering going on in the ranks. A lot of the problems exist because this Cougar club is not really web based. Quarterly news letters which are very good, almost like a magazine. But nothing for months at a time, news wise. We have a site that mirrors this well done Maverick site. It is called MercuryCougar.net. Totally independent of the National Club. This is where I get most of my Cougar information and converse with friends, share ideas and problems.
OK, back to your regularly scheduled program.:tiphat:

FYI...when my wife and I went to the MCCI meet last year at Owensboro, that is exactly what we did. What is the new club going to offer over that?
