Okay guys and gals, production has begun. When I get a few of these in my hands I will be able to answer more questions about tranny configurations (i.e. column shift) and cylinder head fitment. Chances are that if the stock spark plug location has been altered , the wires will not clear. This remains to be unproven because I dont have any aftermarket heads to look at yet. Column shift "looks" like it might clear, but has yet to be proven as well. Hang in there Dave and Sean These are not a limited production item. We will be doing a first production run of 40 sets. They also fit the 351w in 67-71 mustangs, good news if you ask me.The 351 in our cars has yet to be proven, sorry. I will confirm this also when I either get a test vehicle or a test subject to try them for me. As far as power steering cars are concerned...I checked the prototypes on the rack by turning the wheel lock to lock and there are no clearance issues, you can make left hand turns now:bananaman . I have all the pics of the protoypes, on and off the car so if anybody wants photos just shoot me a pm and I'll email them to you. I also have the comparison shots of the hedmans taken by jayman if you want those too. Hang in there gang these will soon be in boxes . Jamie
must have missed this post.... anyhow nice work jamie however.... i ditto this question cuz lots of aftermarket heads are the ones that have problems with # 7 and 8 plugs.
Yippie!!! I just payed off my VISA!!!!:dancingpa my wife can't wait for these, (I might just be able to slip them past her!!!):bananaman
Boy, I don't know where to start...But great job. For me, this is way out there. Why? Because I need some decent sized shorties to flip around for my turbo install... Jayman, have you installed yours yet? And I also would like to know what exhaust port(s) will these work with?
Several questions here. I haven't got these installed in my car yet for several reasons. The biggest reason is that I have been trying them on various other engine and body configurations at a Mustang restomod shop. So far they seem to fit various different Mustang chassis/engine/steering combinations better than the headers we had been using. JBA, Hedman, Hooker The one thing that some of you may run into is the aftermartket upper control arms sometimes have longer than stock bolts used to attach them to the body. Mine were 3/8" longer than stock and caused interference with the tubes on the headers. This was not a Doug Thorley problem. The bolts also interferred with the Hedman headers. What heads are you running? Have you get the engine into the bay yet? If you would like, I can bring the prototypes over to let you try them on your engine to check for fit. If you are using a modified port position/plug angle, this would be one more piece of information for board members and Jamie.
Okay, What heads will these fit? I have physically bolted these onto the heads listed below. These will all work with a 302 Windsor block. Stock '68 to '79 Stock E7 AFR 165 AFR 185 AFR 205 Edelbrock Performer Edelbrock Victor Jr. Dart Sr. TFS Street Heat TFS Twisted Wedge GT40P will not work as the plug angle cause 6 of the 8 plugs to contact the primary tubes. I think the GT40X uses the same configuration. I have not been able to try these on a 351 block in a Maverick or Comet yet. If they work it will be a close fit on the drivers side with a 351 as they tuck pretty tight against the block. Hope this information helps.
Jay is the man!!!!!!! He has access to all these heads and vehicles and a very cool mustang shop that I had the honor of visiting not too long ago. Jay. If you get to a 351w car before I do please call me. I would be glad to help the guy out with a set of headers. Thanks for all the work and time you have put into these. You truly are the man . Jamie
looks like i need to do an engine swap On a serious note,my next project will be using edelbrocks 351C heads, would there be any problem using these shorties? thanks
What shop? I need to get my car dyno'd. It's not JBA is it? I also would be willing to test fit the shorties on my car to see if they work with the manual tranny.
Call me at 619 9 8 5 0 0 3 3 so we can set up a time to do this. I would be glad to bring them up to you to try this. The shop I hang out at is Autoworks International in El Cajon. They are mostly early Mustangs but will work on most things Ford as time permits. I use "The Dyno Shop" in Santee for getting a car dyno tuned or just plain testing. They are reasonably priced and have a very good reputation. Anyone else in So Cal that would like to try a different engine/trans/linkage arangement, call me so we can test fit for your combination. This means those of you running Falcons, Rancheros, etc. as well. I will be trying these on a '64 Falcon with column shift automatic in two weeks. Trying to test as many combinations as possible so Jamie will be able to tell potential customers if it will work for their application. I figure that testing these headers on all these cars is the least I can do to try to thank Jamie and Doug Thorley for investing the time to make these new headers for us. Thank you, Jamie!!!
