most older generators /alternators, have low voltages. and dont work well with newer addons / efi. 3g is a great way to go. efi alternators have a higher idle current.

This is a new alt, only a year old. Power Master single wire, 100 amp. The original problem, was a huge voltage drop when anything other than the headlights were on. I have the relay set up for the headlights. I assumed the primary wire, which has a few splices in it, was the problem. I installed a new 8ga wire from the battery to the fuse block (new wiring harness spliced in to use the fire wall connector). I had had everything apart cleaning terminals and ground connections. Forgot to tighten the alt bolts/belt when I finished. It seems to be working fine now. Except my fuel gauge quit. I may have screwed up the ground for that when I was cleaning it.

Was either Summit or Jeg's, but after 21 years, I'm not sure.

Yes, a 3G will probably fit. With a little bracket creativity, you can make many GM units fit as well.

Ah ok, if it was just a loose belt, you should be gtg.

Take some more readings and post up what it's doing.

    Thnx.

Still holding at 14.5 volts at idle, 13.4 with everything on. The fuel gauge was some corrosion on the plug in the trunk. So for the inside stuff it was either a bad ground or bad feed wire to the fuse block.
    Thanks for the info.
