rear suspension took a break from the dash one day and went to pull and save and grabbed a set of spare rear leaf springs took a good 4 hours to get them out with only hand tools. in preparation for rebuilding the back end I had the spare set rearched, new shackles, u bolts, and bushings with new air shocks. when I get to it will go for a 70's kid look but not to hi of a lift

wish you said something couple months ago through one out you could of had. but you know if you did that you have to change tranny also? don't know if I will or not but it will give me the adjustability. besides I do have a new set of cheap shocks on now but it is a soft ride. that's why I wanted to go with the air can always run a lower pressure.

Thanks thanks for the support gents. to many other things get in the way I guess they are all known as life but just after work and keeping a eye on my mom I am just wore out. biggest thing now is to get the machines for hostess finished it feels like the fate of the country is relying on me to get the machines done to package twinkies so the people that don't turn into zombies have something to eat forever. meant as a joke I am building the packaging machines but the customer has a crazy schedule and keeps changing things like locations and putting on media shows without knowing if things are ready or not. and the company I work for did not staff the job correct so it is a uphill battle as they change the rules three times a week. boy did this turn into a pile of babble!
not completely dead yet well it has been a long time have not done much but got couple smaller projects done. got the dash almost complete just need a switch or 2 for add on like rear window defog. tried a second picture wonder if its in my gallery? shows whole upper half. try try again
other project area add on in trunk. a release and electric antenna I think the brackets are not to bad since ii only have a hammer and vise to form them. oh and power is a constant 12volt fuse box added in the trunk run with 8 ga wire and relays
rear suspention will it took a while and I didn't get done what I wanted but. on two weeks of vacation I did manage to get a pair of seats sitting flat in the car and the rear springs changed. doesn't help I lost about 5 days to other problems like lost phone service, storm damage to the car port, moms medical issues, and wife's car. then the rear springs taking 3 days to change Oh Boy. cleaning the holes of rust to put the upper bushings was a pain and having to cut the shackles to get them out. But the big one was when the steel bushing on the front of one of the springs rusted to the bolt and I do not have a torch to cut it. I ended up using a hand grinder, sawzall, and air chisels to cut it out in pieces then repairing the frame were the bushing had been eating through it! ( probably from me trying to get it out ). I filled in the missing frame then put a fender washer over it to give me a clean hole then welded that into place. So frustrated with the back end I gave it to a local shop to do the front with my parts but now that I opened my mouth and told them no rush they use it to fill there schedule and have had it for 6 days.
Looking good. I'd be careful with air shocks. They have a tendency to punch through to the inside of car. After all your hard work, I'd hate to see it ruined, and give you another headache to fix....
thanks I didn't add the air shocks yet and with the lift I got from the springs alone I do not think I will. I got about 3" of lift and I know it still has to settle because I have not driven it far yet but if the ride is stable and I end up with about 11/2" lift from the springs I will be happy.
this is going to be boring Well I am getting a notice I am not posting enough so I should try to fill this gap. I have not been able to do much to the car. Mom had a gall stone attack that landed her in the hospital and nursing homes for over 6 weeks, and scared her into a retirement home. So with winter here and spending the weekends with her the only thing I have been able to get done is gather parts. Did manage to get the front end rebuilt and aligned that made a major difference. Tried a short run to work once but It feels like the C4 may have some trouble. But I always did want to switch it to a 4 speed any ways. Already have a fake top loader and just finished getting a hurst shifter setup for it. Also have collected the piece to update the power brakes like crown 55 is using with a universal 7" booster and a 1986 ranger master. and for all the line work I well have to do picked up a line press kit that screws in to form the flare rather then the bar and t-handle, tried the old style set and messed it up 3 times. used the new kit and got it first try. So between the rear disks, new power brake setup, and the trany swap if I get time I will be a busy boy. If I don't get time at least I know what I will be doing when I retire in a decade or 2.:16suspect
time to wake up took a week off to get some things done. and maybe get a small start on fun projects like the boat or maverick well best laid plans of mice and men. start out moms neighbor backs into truck, tried to make a dentist appointment to be told they won't look at me for 3 months even if I am in pain. truck brakes takes $150 extra for rotors and 3 extra hours for e brakes not working. and wife throws in looking for a different car so she can have every thing power again. and lay a stepping stone pad for her yard swing. But not all is lost on Saturday went to move the Maverick and had a dead battery got it started Sunday afternoon. looked at a new battery and even a cheap one is over $100 so since I had a larger battery in the garage I decided to fix the corroding battery box and enlarge it. (how is that for reasoning). will Try and remember pictures tomorrow.
this isn't tomorrow but finished up the repairs waiting for paint to dry. removed the back edge of the tray and will use the inner fender as the edge and added 1.25" to end of tray won't take a group 27 battery but will take the left over from the dead explorer for how ever long that will last.
battery saga goes on got it all finished and painted only to find that used battery also had a dead cell well at least the new one won't fall through.
