I have PM'd the member that offered the valance and will contact the company to see if that will be good enough. I will keep everyone informed.
Replyed to the pm , I am willing to spilt the cost of shipping if it will help get things going.... Mine dose have a couple of dents in it, but it's not out of shape. I took it off my old 72 comet and it fit on the car very well...
I want to thank Ken for offering up his valance. I forwarded the picture to Randy and he replied that he was looking for something in better condition. Randy wants to make sure that he gets them perfect for us. If anyone has one that is willing to give up a near perfect valance please let me know. Again I will be will to help with or pay for the shipping. Thanks
Dave in post #3 said he has one. I thought I had extra in the shop but I looked today and it is missing. Darn mice are getting stronger!
Yesterday I let Glenn know that I have one, so I will forward that info to you also. I can emil pics if you want to PM me your address. Bob
...if the dented ones need fixing, fix them before sending... check and see if they have to be..all metal...or can they be one that has been repaired with...some filler...
If my shop wasn't so full with projects and cars right now.. I would pull my Comets valance off and prepare it to be perfect. Would probably cost me more to heat it up just to prep it.. than the materials to do it. lol I'll be going with a fiberglass one and eventually selling it anyways. But sometimes timing is everything, I guess.
It would be nice if they could get a nice-never damaged valance for them work with. I have 2, 1 repaired and 1 not repaired. The spoiler I molded to fit the never repaired valance does fit the other one worth a dink.
I have one, I'll repair and send. It may take a little while, I've been pretty busy at work, and spring is just around the corner... It's too bad, when I was in Florida, Captain Comet had a garage full of them, I would have just bought one from him, and set it from there, but that stuff never really works out like we'd want.
It looks like I need to try to find an undamaged valance. Here is the reply from Randy on a repaired valance. I could ship a good valance and a repaired one just to make sure they both fit but I would be worried that with the shipping of the undamaged valance back and forth would result in another damaged valance. Tom, I have had problems before with a repaired valance. I made a spoiler that fit the repaired valance but it did not fit anyone else s valance. If I knew for sure it was correct that would be fine. If someone could loan me a nice one I could use it to check fit on one that needed work. Then I could send the nice one back. Thanks, Randy
You may want to ask Randy how he ships his spoilers...............they are lot more fragile than the valance. If you need help making a box/crate to ship them in let me know. I've sent Ford Flathead (actually Mercury stroker crankshafts) all of the world. I made a purpose built wood crate and sent the cranks (which were machined) and never had an issue.............I would do the same with the valance, but take a heavy corigated box and reinforce it with wook on the inside, or just make a special box................could ship me the repaired valance................I would make a special box/crate and send it back to you...............it would have provisions for two valances. The shipping ain't going to be cheap, but what is a valance worth???? Again, I'd ask Randy how he sends his spoilers out and what type of box he uses...................I've sent car parts, engine parts, 1/8 scale models all over the world and never had one item damaged in shipment. It just takes a little planning on putting the container together.........................IMHO
