My thoughts: Choke isn't working properly, making car hard to start when cold.

Exhaust needs to be reconnected, either it rusted in two, or was pulled apart by hanging/dragging on something. Check the pipe to see how soft it is, may need replacing the entire system.

Rust in the rear quarters is common on these cars, and can be a hand full to fix if it has progressed too far into the frame rails. Replacement quarter panels are available, but are expensive and require a lot of work to install right, are you able to do it or will you have to pay to have it done {even more money}?

Older cars take more money to operate usually, due to the fact that parts are worn or simply old and break, especially plastic parts. Can you afford to let the car sit a few days for repairs, or will you need it every day? I'm not trying to talk you out of buying the car, just trying to get you to look at the big picture. Sounds like a good price, but you will have to put some money into it to get it dependable and safe right off the bat.

Repair time wouldn't be an issue, I drive my 01 explorer as a daily during the winter and for the past two years my 95 camaro in spring/summer and a bit into fall.

Is there anyway to repair the rust without new quarter panels? That would obviously be a preferred route.

I didnt specifically check the frame rails the first go around cause I didn't really know to, but that will definately be at the top of the list.

rthomas771 thanks for the tip and info on the water pump, that is exactly what I needed to check it....pure genius :D

Yea I appreciate all of it....

I bought the car and drove it around a bit....its having some issues though....

Thinking it is to do with the carb just like the seller said.

Car has trouble idling and dies frequently....its like its not getting the fuel it needs. The guy said he bought a carb from the junk yard - poor choice in my opinion since it could have the same issue as the previous one.

I had to pop it into neutral at stop signs and lights and keep some gas flowing to keep it from dying which I wasn't totally used to.

Anyone give me the info on proper cleaning and maintanence on a carbureter?

Oh, and the engine was the 250, not the 200 the guy thought....Are the carbs interexchangable or did he mess up and a useless one? lol
