I thought I'd take this chance to introduce myself. My name is Matt and I'm from Iowa. Back in May, I picked up a 74 Comet that had been sitting for 2 years. It's a little rough cosmetically but I got it running (not well) and haven't done much since. I order some parts to do a tune up last week and received them yesterday. I ordered a rebuild kit for the carb and the kit I bought didn't match the carb off the car. As far as I can tell, my car is a 250 as I was told. The carburetor, however, seems to be off a 200 from comparing pictures on rockauto. Now my question is, if the carb is in fact for a 200 and my engine is in fact a 250, will they work together or do I need a new carb? What's the best way to tell the engines apart? Thanks in advance for any help. All my car knowledge has been self taught on early 2000s Chevy s-series so this is a new adventure for me.
The quickest way to tell is look at the water pump. The 200 will have 3 mounting bolts and the 250 will have 4. As far as the carb working................ yes it will. The 250 carb is a little bigger but for a daily driver it should be fine. Hope that helps.
from Atlantic Canada! Any time I've ordered a rebuild kit for a carburetor, I have had to provide the information from the metal tag...
