The kit you have is what seems to be in the 72 GT I am going after this evening. The one Frank shows in the pics is the one I will be purchasing here real soon. I will also be asking the guys if I can get a kit without the crossmember and if they are the same except the way the spring is set up..

Don't cut too much extra off of your frame until you get your R & C kit welded in solid - you don't want your rails to go and move on you - I cut my original bulky front cross member out after I had all of my MII s tuff welded in and my front cage hoop in place. replaced it with some 1 1/2 inch tubing but it now only serves as a cleaner looking cross member that may only mount bottom radiator brackets - the front bar of the new cross member goes completely through both frame rails

Also, I have my car jacked by that crossmember, I figured it would hold the framerails straight and square until I get everything else mounted and welded up.

OK, after seeing those pictures in the other thread, I don't think I have those parts. Mine is the RC-106. I will need to check out the catalog and see if that goes to my kit.

You have the other style.. Not the one with the orange circle.

Just looked at the catalog pdf, and that is NOT a part of the 106 kit.

Trying to figure out the difference...

Yours has upper spring seats and uses actual shocks. That bracket in orange is for coil overs..

I see you bought the kit that is built for stock MII springs - that part you have circled would only come with the version that is built for coil over shocks/springs :)

    Yup! I just noticed that!

So, what is the difference between coilovers and regular shocks?

I think pros and cons.. The coil over design allows for some ride height adjustment. The one you have seems to me to be more bullet proof. They might both be as good as the other. I just feel that the spring in your design is captured better.

Either way. You need that piece with the slots that sits on top of the frame rail..

The instructions say that I might want to cut the springs a bit to lower it a little. I am not sure how much I can cut before I start messing up the geometry.

Gene, you have alignment experience...Can I correct the geometry through an alignment, if I were to cut an inch or 2 off the springs?

All of the stuff I bought is stock-height. I figured I could buy drop spindles, if I wanted to drop it a bit. But if I can drop it an inch or two by cutting springs without messing up the geometry permanently, I will do it that way.

As Gene mentioned, a coil over is used to adjust your ride height and is a self contained spring/shock combo that simply mounts at a lower and upper point usually using 1/2 inch bolts - that is what that upper part of the RC 107 kit is for - the upper mount :)

Ah. OK. My instructions have a page about using the shock adjustment for adjusting the ride. I just looked again, and it says it is for coilover shocks. So that page is not for my kit.

Try cutting the spring coils first to get the car down where you want it as dropped spindles are built in a 2 inch drop configuration - I keep finding that people that have used the drop spindles say the 2 inch drop is too much
