looks good! i'd be a little nervous using those brackets on the rear tho, but maybe im just a little paranoid lol
Don I ordered the leaf accessory mounting kit but didn't use it. I used the shipping brackets that were on the car. After Dennis expressed concern over the sideways load strength I'm going to take a good look at this today & I may end up using that kit.
I pulled a set off a 72 4door at the local pull a part, a few month ago just for that purpose. Robert
I use mine when i put the car in the trailer. I cross the 10K straps that i use and really cinch down on them. They seem pretty strong to me. I don't think i'd have any problem using them on a car that's been stripped like that.
I took some better closeup pics of the mounting of the Rotisserie to the shipping tie down brackets on the rear of the car. It looks very solid to me. These brackets look very beefy. They are 1/4" thick steel & they don't give at all. I tried to make them move by psuhing down on the car but they don't move. Let me know what you guys think becuase this is not something you would want to be wrong on.
I would move the mount, you can see where the shipping bracket has moved a bit (different color under where it used to be) Did the rotisserie come with brackets to mount the rear into the bumper bracket holes? that would make it easier for any painting on the bottom of the car. I can get some pic's of my buddys Mustang, and how it was mounted in the rear.
I agree I would move it to or if you could get a bolt in that hole that would help to. They should be strong enough. But I would sure hate to see you get hurt or the car fall off and get damaged. That would be a real bummer. If you have the brackets I would move it.
Yes....you are misssing a bolt on the tie down brackets. I think they would be just as strong as mounting it to the leaf spring mounting point....if not better.
I decided to mount mine at the bumper holes on the back, like I did before. If yours is a 74-77, your not going to have the holes or reinforcement bracket installed, so those brackets may be the next best place to mount the rotisserie. I looked them over carefully today on my Comet. I'm no engineer so I'm just spouting off. If I was going to use that mount, I would get some 3/16" plate and make a second side to go on the other side of the frame rail. Since it is bolted through the rail, this would be easy to do. Then I would box the 2 together. Or you could just drill a hole closer to the frame so the leverage trying to bend them would not be as great. At very least, I would definitely get that missing bolt installed on the bottom of the frame rail.
hey mike, any update on using the rotisserie. are you still using the shipping brackets? BTW how did you find out when it was going on sale? thanks, don
