Heck, toss a turbo on a straight six. That would be cool and make decent power. Mavs are actually pretty light cars too, so a little power goes a long way. Good to see you found this place BTW :)

Maverick Grabber, your steering wheel looks great! My Maverick has deluxe interior with the nice wood trim door panels. There is a glove box. I think the interior looks nice. There was an "Luxury Decor Option" whitch was even nicer. I believe that was a seperate model. My wife had a '76 Gremlin that had the tray under the dash. I don't mine the big bumpers. At least there chrome. They remind me of the early Fords, The Galaxies, Fairlanes. Thoses cars look expansive and elegant. The early Mavericks were marketed to be affordable. There was no carpet, no radio, 170cid 6 cylinder 3 speed for $1,995.00 New:D

ONLY a 302? How many HP is a 302 stock? Seems that you could get about 350 out of it with performance parts without useing a turbo or a super charger.

Also I noticed in the one here in town...
    http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/3/74238013.htm
That it looks like it has a vinyl top cover type thing... (or it's just missing paint from the top).
I would be able to remove all of that so I would have a hard top left right? Probally have a few holes left from whatever bracket they have holding the vinyl on there and need painting?

The stock 302s that came in our mavs had around 140HP. Elliots probably has more because I doubt his engine is stock :D PCGUY, the top on that car may or may not be there when you pull that vinyl off of it. Being that the ad says "needs some bodywork", Im willing to bet there is some rust in it. Be VERY wary of this when you go to look at the car. The bad thing is that sometimes its hard to tell how bad any damage is until you actually remove the top. Look for any obvious bubbles in the paint etc. If I saw ANY bubbles around that top I would run away quickly... But thats just me. Some people on here will sooner cut a top off of a donor car than part with a rusty topped ride. It all depends on how far youre willing to go bodywork wise, and how many Mavs are available in your area I guess.

The stock 302's had about 140HP? Is that only for mavs or are ALL 302's have 140HP? I thought they had more HP... how much would a 351W have then?

Also I was told from other people to watch out for that top... how would I be able to really tell? Becuase I can't rip the thing off right there in the parking lot....

The 70's were a dark age for American performance. Due to smog regulations and the fuel crisis, a lot of these engines were really toned down. Building a good engine isn't easy though, and you'll never be quite sure what you have until you slap it on a dyno and really give it a test.

It means it supposedly has a built up 5.0 (302) out of a later model fox bodied Mustang. First thing that always turns me off on an ad like that is. Built!!!! yeah right, every used car I have bought has a rebuilt motor. Probably a bone stock 5.0 with a holley on it. But, that is not alot of money, and if the body is decent, not a bad buy and maybe a good car to start with.

Humm wish it was closer to me...
I just can't stand the thought of having a car where everyone can outrun me... I mean it's not like i'm going to be raceing or anything (because I coulden't risk getting caught) it's just the fact knowing that if you wanted to race you coulden't :p

Putting a super or a turbo on would be nice... but it seems like you are going to toast the little 6cyl pushing a ton of power into it. Also aren't super's and turbo's really expensive and you have to have someone install it for you?
