Paying anyone to work on a car is expensive. Yes superchargers and turbos are very very expensive. As for having people with quicker cars against you. There is always somebody better, faster, and luckier. That my friend, is the law of the street.

Does anyone know of an easy way to check for a total rusted top when it's under vinyal without ripping something off?

I don't think that there is any way other than pulling off the vinly. It's almost guaranteed that the roof is rusty. After 30 something years of moisture, etc, it's rusty. Ford also didn't protect the roof much under the vinly....

    Get ya a 302.

get ya a 302 with alittle playing a 302 can make well over 400 horse power i have built many 302s like that and still keep everything under the hood no carbs sticking out or blowers sticking out, but when they would pull beside of it the trick was on them.

Speed costs money, but the Ford Inline 6 is a tough engine. For a good disc brake conversion on a 1970 Maverick check out the August 2004 edition of Mustang and Ford Magazine (Vol. 22 #8). It also has an article on a clean "71 Comet (Maverick Cousin) and a small article on a Mexican Shelby Grabber.
