While I don't know the specifics about trucks, you did not blatantly swap the VIN on either of those trucks. Both cabs still retain their original VIN number. Last I checked there is nothing illegal about changing a truck from 2wd to 4wd. Now if you stick your '77 VIN on the '69 cab and grind the original VIN off the frame, then I could see there being an issue.

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that you could possibly do jail time for swapping the VIN. I made the point that if you do it right it would be impossible to prove. If for some odd reason suspicion was raised that the VIN may be swapped, it would be WAY easier for a lawyer or whoever to prove it is the incorrect VIN for a 2 door if it has a 4 door body code. Go to Google and type in "ford maverick VIN decode". The first link that pops up provides detailed info about what the codes mean. I'm sure even Ford would verify it still. I would not be comfortable running a VIN on my car that can be so easily proven as not being the original.

*I would not advise anyone swap VIN's around. It is highly ILLEGAL. Don't do it. I'm not responsible if you get arrested. The above post is for educational purposes only and all that jargon. ;) But if it's the only option to keep an other wise good Maverick on the road, do it right and forget it ever happened.

I think in Texas if it hasn't been regesterd in so many years (5 to 10,not sure) the paperwork is destoried and anybody can apply for a lost title

in fla only the person whos name is on the title can apply for a lost title. i talked to broadway title today and they say they can fix it for me. it will cost some and take appx 6 weeks but it should fix it where i can take their bill of sale ( from alabama) and apply for a florida title.
on a side note-- the seller now is hanging up on me when i try to call his number:mad::mad::mad: . he said he would help and refund my cash if i can't fix this but it looks like he is an a--hole like many i've had to deal with. karma is a bitch!!! what goes around comes around eventually

If you have no title or ownership(canadian) then all I do is go to a court house and see a justice of the peace. (judge) I swear out a statement that the car is mine,( show bill sale) and explain that the car came with no title. Lost or never was 1. IE ga The judge makes me swear on a bible that I,m telling the truth and walla, He stamps the bill sale and I now can go to the DMV and get a title. have done this b4 on several occasions. Works for me

    Jason,

Do it right by doing it LEGAL and be truthfull.

By any chance did you check with the DMV to see if the Broadway Title way of doing things will fly in Florida? I would make sure before dropping more money and finding out afterwards it's no good in FL.

FYI ... your Georgia friend will need to insure the car to get it registered ... so it'll cost a couple of bucks to get it done ...

ken, i haven't checked yet but it is on my to do list before mailing any money. just trying to get a straight answer from the dmv is tough unless you have a couple hours to spare and go down there. trying to call is almost useless.
the georgia route can't be done since georgia doesn't register s.c. cars without a title.
