With out a pile of money in that mtr. at 900 to the crank,do not plan on it lasting very long.build a 600hp 408 & never look back, cheaper & will last longer & in a 2800lb car with the right parts,9s all day.Plus this could be accomplished on a street car with some planning, which ever route you take, have fun & put every chevy on the trailer you can when you get to the trk.

true dat! better longevity and cheaper to build a 9.5" height block making 600 horses with a 300 shot than a 8.2" height block making 500 with a 400 shot.

Of course, one could still build an 8.2" block to 600 horsepower and hit it with the smaller 300 shot.. but the valvetrain cost will start getting exponentially more expensive and lifespan will start to rapidly decrease in the process. Tons of ways to skin that cat but some will cost you more initially and over the long run than others, is all.

Its a 460 stock block with 10.4 compression and old Blue Thunder heads. Have over 400 passes on it now and expect another 400 passes before I open it up. Shift at 6000 rpm and hit the traps at 6200 rpm all on pump gas.

With a 2nd fuel system and a good nitrous tuneup I don't see any problems spraying a 100-150 shot

Seriously, for your effort just spend the time and money to supercharge or turbo and in the long run you will be on the track/street having fun. ....... Cheaper in the long run, but what does an Old Drag Racer know.

Yep, it does get to be a PITA getting the bottle refilled all the time. I used to get about 8 good runs from a 10 lb bottle, then have to fill it up for $40, so basically it cost me $5 every time I hit the button. And that was 15 years ago, I have no idea what nitrous goes for nowadays.
