I got my Marti Report email on the gold Comet GT just purchased last week. The hard copy will follow. I thought it might be a Stabber or Bearcat since it had side exhaust pipes and came from Atlanta.

Turns out, it was sold in Cornelia, Ga. at Stovall Motor Co. It spent all of it's existence in Toccoa, Ga. until six months ago, when it was moved to SC by the gentleman from whom I purchased it.

It is the same combination as my '73 Stang conv, Gold Glow Metallic/ Ginger interior, and is close to being a '73. It was scheduled for production on July 27th and actually built on August 12th, 1972.

basic car with a 302/3spd, only option besides an AM radio was the Cross Country Ride Package, and of course, the GT Package

It currently has the 302/C4. I plan on pulling the engine/trans today and go back to a manual, perhaps a 4 speed. The body is rough, but restorable and I have all the parts to finish it. No Stabber but still a potentially nice car.

Would the Stabber or Bearcat show up on a Marti report? I was thinking that they were dealer installed packages.

Neither of them would show on a Marti report. However, the Stabber was only from a particular dealer in Atlanta. I am not sure about the Bearcat. It did have side pipes at one time.

I pulled the engine/trans today. It is the original engine, with the vin # stamped on the top of the engine. Now to remove the C4 and go back to manual. Just like the tranny in my Sprint Maverick, it was hard to tell if it was made out of metal or Georgia clay, lol.:rofl2:

Also, Marti called me today to get some door tag information about vehicle weights. I called them back and the same girl who was snippy with me the other day answered the phone. She was very pleasant this time. I guess she was having a bad day last week.

Does anybody have a picture of a Bearcat? I looked at the front bumper off of the gold GT and it had something at one time or another attached to the bottom near the outside of each side of the bumper. Maybe it had the fog lights? What dealers installed Bearcat packages?

This car does have a few spots of surface rust here and there on the body. Overall, the entire underside is fine and still shows original paint overspray, frame rails are fine and what rust was in the floors has been repaired. He cut out sections on both quarters and the deal included 2 new entire quarter panels, 2 rustfree doors, and a rustfree trunk. The engine bay is in very good condition with a little rust under the battery tray. Overall, not bad. 78,000 original miles, 2 owners.

As far as I know Pugmire in Atlanta was the only Stabber Dealer and there were several Bearcat dealers around the country.

Looks like the Bearcat pictured in the other post has fog lights off of the bumper. Any one else notice the two different brands of sidepipes being used?

Jim, what wheels are are on the car? Anything like in those pictures?

    Jeff,

It has the old style Magnums that had the beauty rings on it. The bumper that is on the car has the same center license plate bracket as the one in the picture and places where something was bracketed to the bumper on each side. The original steering wheel is gone and a cheap after market one on it.

I am going to try and contact the original owner. I have the name of the fellow in the same small town in Ga. that acquired it from him and flipped it to the man in SC. Maybe I can get some closure on this subject soon.

Even if it was originally converted to a Bearcat, all the parts are gone, so it would be almost impossible to make it one again.

Hey Jim.. the original owner, Peanut passed away some time ago. the guy we purchased it from got it from the family. I recall him saying that he may have thought it was a bearcat as well.
