I need some guidance. 75 Maverick w C4. Backup lights not working. Power probed sockets and lights will come on. Power probed NSS, no backup lights. Traced wires and found a white with purple wire not connected to anything. Right behind and above radio. It does not appear to be hot, but maybe ground? While there, what is the three prong “flasher” for? Emergency flashers? AND, what is the several port connector for? Test ports? It’s brown and about 2 1/2” long. Thank you for any guidance. Btw, can start car in park or neutral.

The white with purple trace is definitely not a ground wire and according to a schematic it looks like it maybe part of the reverse light wiring. There are 2 flasher units - directional and emergency 4 ways. These old cars do not have test ports so any connector you find is for something. Either a needed component or might be part of the wiring harness for some optional equipment.

Here is a link to some wiring diagrams - they will help figure out those connectors by the wire colors - http://www.maverickcomet.com/Wiring/Maverick.asp

You're welcome --- If you can post pictures of any of the connections you are not sure of, somebody here will recognize what it is for.

That’d be great! On the wiring diagram there’s a symbol I don’t recognize. I’ll try to attach a
    photo. Symbol circled in red

In other diagrams it looks like that would be a connection. Hopefully someone else can confirm this as I'm not totally sure.

If I didn't know any better I'd say that was a junction block of sorts. I've looked at a lot of electrical diagrams in my time at the dealer and have never seen anything like that so my answer is pretty much a guess but I'd say that it would be close to something like a junction block or possibly a splice.

White/pink is generally the feed from fuse to the backup light sw. Voltage out of BU switch is usually a black & pink wire.

Of course in a automatic, the BU light sw is part of the neutral safety switch.
