:biglaugh: I like this "It's all about power potential per dollar" then "For the same money I could take a 250 I6 Mav and smoke any CRX for sure" NOT! Ummm I had a 91 CRX Si model and I could eat my 71 302 Grabber up with that thing, I paid $1400 for the CRX and $2600 for the Maverick. The CRX only had a aftermarket fuel rail and injectors which were in it when I bought it. The Maverick was bored, 4bbl, headers, cam, the usual, when I bought it. Your not going to beat ANY CRX with a hopped up 250 Mav!Thats for sure, plain and simple!
As for outrunning a 350 Nova...well crap if I eat my Wheaties in the morning and get a good tail wind I could do that on a bicycle!:D

The engine in the Si is no different than the engines in the standard CRX. It was a sport package (wheels/tires, ground FX, etc.), just like a Grabber Vs. standard Maverick. And my buddy's '88 could NOT beat (yeah, we raced) my STOCK 302 Maverick with the addition of 4-barrel carb. It even had the SINGLE exhaust, and 3.00 gears at the time. We hung together and neither of us could pull away from the other. Yeah, that CRX was a spunky little car, but not really all that fast. Who get's excited when they see a Honda CRX in the junkyard? Pretty much no one. But those American classics are sure to catch our attention...

The CRX Si engine IS different than the standard CRX engine. The standard CRX (HF DX) models were 1.5 liters and mostly 4 speed manuals and autos. The CRX Si engine was 1.6L with 5 speed! It WAS NOT just a wheel tire and ground FX package! Maybe you need to do alittle research before correcting other people! And mine COULD AND DID beat a stock or mild modified Maverick, and could hang with a stock 5.0 Mustang. No there not really all that fast but neither are most other factory cars that came from the same era!

Maybe the '91 you had, but my friend DID the research when he bought his '88 and the engines are the SAME. his was a BASIC red Honda CRX with a 5-speed. Did ANY car have a 4-speed by 1988?? I've never seen one.

1988 Honda CRX Si had a 1.6 liter I4 105 bhp @ 6000 rpm, 98 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm. My friend's base model had the same engine. My STOCK Maverick had only 138hp at 4200, but 234 pounds of torque, and weighs like 900 pounds more.

So case in point: The 4-cylinder has to rev higher to come close to the same horsepower, and produces less than half of the torque...

Like I said, nothing to get excited about...

And by '91, the Si had only 3 more hp, and 2 more lbs. of torque. The key is light-weight. Also, I'd bet those 5.0 Mustang drivers either didn't know how to drive, or weren't actually racing...

Apparently you havent looked. My brother has a 89 Civic HB with the 1.5 and guess what...a 4 SPEED MANUAL!

Si have the same engines as base models?...read this Honda CRX Specifications...huh...guess your friend was wrong! Si also has MPFI where as the HF DX has TBI. If your friends base model had the same engine as the Si then someone else put it there and it wasnt the factory.

I helped a kid get a 1.8L out of an wrecked Acura last year. He built it, put a turbo on it, and stuck it in a Civic. He made mods to the gearing and front end. I don't recall what exactly. That car flys. I don't exactly remember the amount of money he has in that Civic. But I do remember that, when he told me exactly what he had in the car and drivetrain, thinking to myself that there was no way I could build a Maverick to that performance level for that amount of money. You ought to watch the Summit Sports Compact series of the NHRA on ESPN some Saturday or Sunday. Those FWD cars can be made to fly. When you turn 14,000 rpms, you can make up for a lack of torque.

BTW, I do prefer the good 'ol v-8 and the slam you in the seat torque, but I am leery about the Honda's I line up against at the red light.

His was a 5-speed. In any case, is 16 horsepower really all that big of an increase? The torque figures are pretty much the same. When you have an extra 900 pounds to accelerate, it certainly makes it more challenging for the Mustang/Maverick, etc...

Put your money where your mouth is, that's all I gotta say. The Honda in that video had major amounts of money put into it to make it that fast.. I'll smoke any street-driven CRX in my Maverick, with the OLD worn-out 186,000 mile engine. I've had plenty of experience with such over the years. I was driving my Maverick before you were born, kid. You were 3 years-old when I bolted my first Holley carb on it. You're a bit of a smart-mouth punk, really. Talk is cheap...

This thread has turned into a hypocritical joke.

Honda guys talk big and bad on the internet, but on the street it rarely materializes. They find one Honda some guy has put loads of cash into and then start flaunting it around like every little fart pipe they drag out of someone's back yard for 1000 bucks can do it. Give me a break. My dad walks away from fart piped Honda's and other imports on a daily basis with his '95 Mustang. The Mustang isn't stock, but it dosen't have tens of thousands in it either.

Hell I outran a CRX with my mom's 2002 Taurus SEL with the 24 vavle 210 hp Duratec engine. I guess the guy thought his primer paint job and wing made him fast or something. You could hear him shifting like crazy, I just dropped the Taurus out of overdrive and pulled away from him. I also stayed about a car length ahead a V6 firebird with that car, all the way up to 120 mph... when we slowed down, the guy wouldn't even look over at me. ;)

True, true. But i raced a honda to the strip. he smoked me, turns out he has a 9 sec honda with about 60 Gs in the car, HUGE TT setup and a gear ratio like none other.
