Finally found a block I can use for the price I'm wanting: a 289 at the local junkyard that shows promise, provided the rust can be bored out of the cylinders (no worries there). I also found something else at the same junkyard: a 72 Grabber. *boggles* Why oh WHY didn't I find this before?! Just what I need, more temptation.... I'm going to call the owner this weekend (the 'yard doesn't own it) and see what he wants for it. The body is mostly solid but the floorboards are, well, it's been sitting a while. But it has the bumpers I want, the scoop in the rear, the Grabber hood; no engine or tranny but I have that....

    Decisions, decisions. Arg. :banghead:

We took the new block over to the machine shop yesterday and were informed that the crank we'd left was off an 80s 302 - adding insult to injury, the harmonic balancer that had been on the motor wasn't meant for that crank, and the transmission flywheel wasn't even a Ford piece. Somebody had Frankensteined this engine together and hadn't done a very good job of it. So I'm going to be even more money out of pocket getting everything balanced, bored and put together.

I do, however, finally have most of the necessary parts to begin some reassembly; got my pushrods yesterday in the mail so can begin reassembly of the heads. The calipers have also been painted and the brakes are also ready to be put together and ultimately on.

I've also decided against getting that Grabber - the guy will only sell the whole car not just parts, and I can't do 3 projects/cars/parts-doohickies. No room, no moolah. It'll hopefully still be there when I'm ready for cosmetic but, not now.

Dude is focusing today and yesterday to sorting the electrical problems with the 70 - he's so close to finishing, he just needs to find a way into some hard to reach areas (namely behind the dash). Hopefully we can get that roadworthy and cruising so we have a useable car (aside from my leased car that as of yesterday has 1,001 miles left, which with my daily commute is about a month). Fortunately I have my motorcycle and the weather's warming up.

Keeping my fingers crossed it won't be much longer (or much more money!!).
