Sorry Rick but I've got to go with ShadowMaster on this one. My .02 Deep stage for the tree. Ad weight for the time runs. In the class you are running if you are without a trans brake the only way to cut a good light is to deep stage, do this the same way each time, that way in eliminations you won't have to change a thing except take out the weight. And there is nothing like seat time, the more the better and do it the same way each time. As always just my .02 Bossmav
Bah...no need for the apology :Handshake - I was only offering my .02 myself. To each their own. Personally, my buddies would shame me into NOt using weights for a couple of reasons; 1) Loose weights are dangerous to you and people around you. 2) I do not know the rules, but I can't imagine the "powers that be" allowing everyone in the class to add weight during qualifying and then remove them during eliminations - it just doesn't make sense. (announcer: "Okay racers, add your weights now and don't forget to remove them for eliminations.") I'd hate for Erick to be disqualified over something as simple as loose weights or even removing weights. That isn't the intent of the one tenth rule. (I understand the concept of making the best of the "non-rules" also). 3) Usually (in my circle), timing is taken out to compensate for the tenth - you still launch the same, keep the pedal to the metal all the way through, etc. but the car will only go one tenth slower (hopefully). Different strokes for different folks. Good luck Erick. Let us know what you did to remove the tenth and how you did! Make us proud.
i guess i'm a little dense. the only way they would know about removing weight from day to day is if they either weigh the cars, or post a guard at each trailer to watch you unbolt the weight under the seats or remove 10 gal of gas. which of these are they doing? fill the tank for time shots & keep it full. that night remove about 8-10 gallons. 50-60 lbs worth. real easy if you run an electric fuel pump & can borrow 2 gas cans. or are they going to safety wire everyones gas cap shut, too? or bolt 50 under the rear seat & sneak it out later that nite quietly. you did say times are one day & elim the next, right? or shift 500 rpm sooner during time shots. usually worth at least a tenth unless your are normally shifting too high. i didnt notice anyone saying to put loose weights in the car, but i could be wrong. i know i said to bolt it or fasten it down (like the spare tire).
I do not profess to know all the rules in all the classes, but.... They can weigh a car after every pass if they want to. Depending on the class (having weight restrictions or not), more than likely, they WILL weigh the winning car. If another driver contests the winning car's weight - I 'believe' the winner MUST have his car weighed or be disqalified. I've been to races were some guys were disqualified because of just that reason. My point, again, was that I wouldn't want to anyone (on this board anyway ) to be disqualified for not having the weight mounted in accordance with NHRA rules. Excerpt from NHRA Rule Book: "Any material used for the purpose of adding to a car's total weight must be permanently attached to the car's structure and must not extend behind or in front of the car's body or above the rear tires. No liquid or loose ballast permitted (i.e.: water, sandbags, rocks, shot bags, metal weights, etc.). Weight boxes (2 maximum) made of 1/8-inch material may be constructed to hold small items such as shot bags, lead bars, etc., as long as box and contents do not weigh more than 100 pounds or as outlined in Class Requirements. The box must be securely fastened to the car's frame or crossmember with at least two 1/2-inchdiameter steel bolts." I agree, if qualifying is done one day, and the eliminations are the next, and as long as the weights are mounted in accordance with the rules, I don't see a problem. No matter what, Erick, in the words of MXC's Captain Tenneal,
I love Captain Tenneal, he's cool!! In FFW, no one has ever weight my car but that doesn't mean that in another racing fourm they wouldn't. I don't use my passenger seat except for time runs in what was open comp, now mod comp. It's out of a 2000 explorer and adds almost 1 tenth to my time. I can put it in and bolt it down in about 3 minutes and the same to remove, I sure I'm not the only one doing these kind of things. Now with all that said... if you are going to play by the rules then don't cheat and I think that's what Rick is saying. But if you do ad weight I like the fuel idea, if your car is weighted before and after now you have what you need to explain why and can easily prove it. Now being disqualified for not have a full tank on any pass would be highly unlikely. But once again this page of mush is only my .02 Good luck and please follow Captain Tenneal words of wisdom and make them eat dust. Bossmav
The class has no weight restrictions, so you can do what you want, but ballast has to be installed per NHRA safety rules. I ended up bolting in 50 pounds. Worked pretty good, I got runner up out of about 70 cars. In the finals I ran an 11.52 on an 11.52 but had a red light.
