Thanks Kevin! Thank You, Frank! Yes, the cowl monkey is finally off my back. Lots of work left to do, but watching builds like yours certainly provides inspiration. I have always wanted a set of these wheels. I'm probably more excited about the wheels than the car in general. I just bought an NOS center cap for one the other night. Only three more to go. I do have four decent ones, but the chrome needs some work.
Picked up some more paint and finished with the yellow. Colour-match is about 95% there. Hopefully with the cowl-to-hood gasket and all the windshield washer stuff on the front, the colour difference won't be too noticeable. The top of the cowl around the grilles is still the original paint. I left it that way so that when the fenders are on and the hood is closed, there won't be any colour-matching issues.
Lookin' good, better get my ass busy or you'll be finished before me... I probably missed it but I assume you are going with five lug on reassembly???
I think you still have some 'wiggle' room as far as getting done before me! Yes, I will be going with 4-wheel discs on 5-bolt wheels. I get the front brakes this week, and will be getting the rear end sometime soon after that. I already have a set of NOS Crown Vic backing plates for the rear disc swap.
If you saw mine when I bought it, the engine bay was rattle can sprayed and the body of the car was painted with a brush so this is all new to me
I received my new-to-me front disc brake assemblies, courtesy of fellow MMB member Ian164. Ian was nice enough to deliver them to my door on his way to Carlisle yesterday! Thanks a bunch, Ian! Looking forward to your next visit. Pictures to come...
Thanks Roger! There won't be a whole lot of "fast' for a few years, as I plan on keeping the 200cid while I can obtain parts and cash for a V8 swap. Right now, I have to treat the V8 swap as a separate project. The scope of work has already increased about 10-fold from my original leak-fixes and engine compartment 'freshening'. What master cylinder and proportioning valve are you using with the 4-wheel discs? There seems to be a lot of opinions out there.
I am using a Maverick 1976 drum disc M/C everything else as far as lines and all are new stock with the exception of CV lines on the rear disc.
i used a 90s ranger mc for 4-wheel disc. stock distribution block and an adjustable prop valve on the rear line.
I got my last parts order for a while. Hopefully the parts will allow me to keep working on the car and make progress this winter. One of the items was a new set of leaf springs from Laurel Mountain Mustang. In preparation for the install of those and a 5-lug rear end, I decided to remove the rear end and leafs from the car tonight. I may as well take the doors and the trunk lid off, just to be perfect!! Who would have thought I'd still be removing parts off this car...
It seems to snowball on ya, that's the problem with these cars, I had planned to freshen up the engine, that turned into a stroker build and that lead to a TREMEC install, and once I have the engine out I might as well address the front end issues I have, will need new tires when the stroker goes in and ohhh yeah, almost forgot I still have that Bronco 9" rear end in the shop................see what I mean, SNOWBALLING! The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another
OK, I FINALLY got some paint on the front of this thing. Two coats of POR-15 Satin Black, followed by a coat of POR Chassis Coat (Satin Black that is supposed to be the closest match to North American-made cars' engine compartments from the 60's and 70's). and before everyone flames me for it, yes, there are a few 'tiny' runs in the paint. I was going to try the masking-tape run-removal, but figured I'd better leave it alone. Once all the engine compartment detailing is done, most of the runs should be covered. As people have pointed out, and I observed during paint removal, the factory was not immune to runs either. No worries of THIS car being 'over-restored'!!
