I picked up a 5-lug rear end a while ago. The price was right. Over the last little while I have managed to get it disassembled, cleaned, painted and new bearings and seals installed. Today was rear disc brake mock-up day!!
Your rear end looks nice..... well, you know what I mean did you use por 15 for that also? I need to place an order for some.
I am using Frank's Tech Article. I already have the cables cut, and my original conduit cleaned and painted. I'm still waiting on the e-brake levers so I can finalize all the measurements. I have had an issue trying to find the levers. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/stock-e-brake-system-for-rear-disc-brakes.96019/
Well 60/40 solder would scare the bejeezus out of me(see Paul's link), that's just plan old electrical solder... I resoldered so many cracked/broken connections in TV over the years, I couldn't trust it... I'd think it'd pull apart on first brake application(apparently it doesn't)...
Yeah, I'm not very good with soldering. I had my house plumbing converted to PEX, just to be rid of soldering copper. I was going to take them into a welding place in town to have them TIG welded, as per DaveB's suggestion. I'm not sure if there are any local places here that would have the tools, etc to crimp new balls onto them either.
I think I may have to do some more research on this subject. I was thinking the TIG may be hot enough to make the ends of the cable brittle. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
More progress: I finished making the hardlines for the rear end. I also managed to get the front brakes done, and even had time to try a rim... I couldn't resist assembling my cooling fan, either.
