I never liked yellow cars, and my wife HATES yellow, but it looks really good on the mav. The only modification I would do if I were you is spray some tire-shine on those tires, make them shiny and black. That would really top off the job! Isn't it nice when someone makes a suggestion that costs only $3.00?
After looking at the second picture again (I have looked at them all numerous times, wonderful paint and body!), I noticed that there is a small gap between the rear bumper and the body. Is that the normal sized gap? I ask because I did the big-to-small bumper swap, and had a similar gap, and wondered if it shouldn't fit closer. Seeing it on your car makes me think that maybe that is how it is supposed to fit. Honestly, I have never seen another maverick in real life, except for the big bumper ones, (and the rust heap I took my small bumpers off of, but there was very little body left and the bumpers were hanging off) so have never been able to compare.
The bumper is as close as I could get it, I guess I could try tightening it more but I am pretty sure thats it...... thanks for the comments on the paint btw.... and I didn't have any tire shine or rim cleaner where I was working yesterday
Don't take me wrong. Not trying to point out flaws, by any means. Just wondering if mine was correct, and since yours looked like mine, just verifying that yours is stock and not a big-to-small conversion. Did you do your own body work? That is where I am now, bondo and fiberglass, and getting sick of it.
on the bumper swap, did you use the '69.5 - '72 rear bumper mounting brackets?...the '73 stick out about an inch more. this was mentioned when i did the swap on my '73 so i had to change them to make someone on here "happy'...m.f.f.
Its a big to small bumper conversion...... this car is my 76 as it didn't need any floors fixed like the car I bought from Sean71.... there was a bit of minor body work that needed to be done...... looking at the pictures it sticks out a little further in than the bumper on the 71..... I have to get the bottom of the rear valance attached better as well as the bolts that go through the trunk were misplaced...... will try to get it in more but I am happy with the way it turned out I custom made my rear brackets as the rear brackets that the small bumper came from was kinda attached
The brackets on mine are from the Grabber I pulled the bumpers from. Not sure what year, 70-72 sometime. They still stick out a little. I figured I would mess with them just before paint and when the bumpers get re-chromed.
How do you figure that?? Putting black in all the right places makes a wonderful contrast gives a tough apprearance. That's why the Grabbers and Comet GTs looked so agressive and so much better. All that gray trim that most of these cars came with looks extremely dull and boring...
You can always paint the mirrors after the fact...they bolt on, and are small enough that color-matching should not be a problem. I'm not sure if Montego mirrors are correct or not (would have to see them), but Pinto, Mustang-II, and I think Granada mirrors are. I know that on some of the older Torinos & similar cars, the mirror pedestals were taller than those on the Maverick/Comet and the other cars I just mentioned. That's a nice shade of yellow. Even if you don't do the stripes, I really think that blacking-out all of the other areas I mentioned, would really look mean on that car. In any case, do whatever looks best to your eyes...
the montego mirrors base is a little longer but the remote works really good and I have the gaskets so I am gonna get the windows tinted as well Gonna get the mirrors painted body color if I don't do stripes, if I do the stripes the mirrors will be painted black
nice color... will catch eyes thats for sure! i call it "i wanna ticket yellow" watch the cops but car looks fine... if you do stripes just don't over do it! my only other suggestion... might wanna stick them tires in the wheel wells.. just my
