You must know them from M&M? We only live 10 miles apart or so. See them at the track on a regular basis. Baddass is also in my backyard. Great builders but a bit pricy.. Steve just bought his wife a Maverick and is slowly converting it into a fast ride also. One happy 1/4 mile family!
Oh s--- watch your language? I have to laugh because I went to your site and I told my wife this is how my car will be. She said, "oh s---" I'm not driving with you? Anyway what are you running and what time did you turn in? And yes, they guarantee the car will run in the 10's, especially after I told them what the motor was going in. On a side note is there anything I need to know or tell my local mechanic regarding my setup of engine and car? What I should or should not do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. james comet
I'd like to build a 408 & make it look like a regular ol' 351 that someone plucked out of an old truck, put on a 4bbl and threw it in the Mav..er..Comet.Yea,I can't help it,I like sleepers.Looks like some serious hardware in there though.Good luck setting up your gear selection, traction devices, etc.,oughta be a screamer.
There's a guy 'up north' (northern part of this state) that has a early 80's F350 flat bed hay truck. Used to have a 351w in it. The machinests that have been working with my spare 408 asked him if he wanted to do a 460 because they had heard that the farmer was griping about the lack of power. The only bad part about a 460 is that the thing weighs nearly a 1/2 ton, which in a 2wd 1 ton pickup, would be very easy to get stuck in the pasture picking up hay bales. They all decided that a 393 would be best. It's got a set of GT40 heads on it, old-style HP (I guess if you can put HP and cast iron manifolds in the same sentence) manifolds that were gutted out, a good ol' 4 bbl intake with matching Motorcraft carb and RV style camshaft (smooth idle). They were telling me the other day that the truck doesn't have ONE piece of straight metal on it (typical farm truck), has more oil leaks than you can shake a stick at, the transmission can be heard over the radio at 45 mph, but it will supposedly out-pull the same 1 ton pickup with a 460 or diesel engine (of the same era). Kind of surprised me that they didn't do a 460. You will like the 408. They make a LOT of torque...for a 'small' block.
Engine sounds very nice What headers do you plan to use? and what mods have you made to fit the motor?
