Have a question of what is the plate bolted to the top of the subframe directly under the steering box. My 72 has one with nothing bolted to it and I was curious what it was for. Thanks
Could be frame bracket for Clutch Equalizer (Z-bar) Arm, is it attached with 2 bolts? David Frame side bracket is on the left side of picture: Attaches to frame rail via 2 - 3/8" bolts:
That is where it is bolted but is flat not perfectly square with 2 holes to bolt to something. This is an auto car.
Tom: I wonder if that plate was used only on earlier cars or 6 cylinders? Both my 73 and 74 where 302 with column shift C4's and I did not have that plate, I think it was a bracket similar to frame side bracket I had pictured......... David
In the Master Parts catalogs, 70-72 Maverick & 73-77 Comet column shift diagrams are identical. Plate I pictured not shown, but not much doubt it's there. Probably considered a chassis part, so has a beginning number other than seven. At moment I haven't found it. It'd be a bear installing linkage bracket on the frame rail during assembly line build. Flat bracket is mostly a extension that moves the linkage mount into open space. .
That is the same linkage set up I had on both my 73 and 74, bracket bolt directly to the frame rail, no plate. I will look at the Ford Master Parts catalog now that I see the numbers on your picture, easier to locate, thanks! David
