i like the low gloss black in the rattle can, but i used auto stripper and a grinder from work, then used rust remover jelley, then primed then sprayed low gloss black, looks good to me and many others. i like the black egine compartment.

 

Engine bay

I think the engine bay should be body color since thats the way they were when new. The only blacked out the front of the radiator core support on the Grabbers so it would be all match the black grill. However, if your car is modified, or not a factory color I dont think it maters. In my case, my car has Ziebart rustproof over most of the engine compartmant so I just blacked out the rest to make it look nicer. To remove all the rustproof would be a nitemare, its been on there for 31 years. Usually the only time questions arise is when Im parked next to another Maverick that has a nice panted engine bay.

 

My engine compartment is black and the body color is 2010 Mustang Grabber Blue, so is the engine!! I think the black sets off the motor, plus I paint my motors the body color, a personal touch.

 

I like the black because it forgives.

Body color is better if done properly. I am thinking of filling holes with metal and using a metal body filling to smooth any areas. (Bondo type products would crack in the engine bay)

A clean, smooth engine bay, fresh body seam sealer and painted gloss and clear coated is sharp and easy to clean with a pressure washer. (Not rattle can paint)

I plan to take the front clip off, paint it all with the engine out. Wheel wells get new seam sealer and then truck bed line and then satin black. (Might do the same for the under side)

Now I just have to find time and money...

 

I would say he has made his decision by now guys.

 

2010 grabber blue? Is that a different paint code than the original? I figured it was an exact match, they look the same

I prefer black engine blocks with polished aluminum valve covers/accessories, so for me, the blue engine bay will set off the black and polished engine better

 

I like both, so with me, it's definately a matter of what the owner's personal tastes/wants/needs are.

My car's going to be metallic blue with silver stripes and accents and gray/blue interior, so the engine compartment's going to be spatter painted like the trunk, gray with black and blue speckles, in keeping with the blue/silver/gray color scheme.

The car is going to be a regular driver, not a show car, and I'm not an originality junkie, and the trunk and engine compartment are utilitarian, so I don't want paint finish to constantly maintain and clean, but the gray spatter paint will look good, nicely contrast the body color and accentuate the engine and won't be too hard to keep clean enough for a driver/street car and even the occasional show.

For those with black stripes on their cars, both a black or paint-matched engine compartment would technically be "body colored" since black is also part of the car's body color.

 

IMO...

Painting the engine bay to match gives you that "complete package" look and shows your attention to detail (especially if you take it all the way like rayzorsharp did.)

Black is more utilitarian, easier to do and maintain, and tends to create two worlds: the engine, and the car.

My engine bay is flat black.

BTW: For all you guys thinking of flat black for anything (car body, engine bay, trunk, or whatever) I highly recommend John Deere flat black industrial enamel. It has a beautiful sheen, covers very well, is easy to apply and touch-up, and is very economical (in cans for a spray gun.) Also, it's much more durable/stable than true flat black primer and a lot more consistent and easier to deal with than adding a flattening agent to gloss black paint.

 

My car is a 77 and it is body color from the factory with black braces and radiator. It's your car. Do what you want. Your opinion is the only one that should count to you.

what is that blue part on the upper left corner? is it part of the a/c or heater?

 

2 years dead when Frankie made his comment and then almost a year after Klynam's comment and it's back! That's not really a bad thin in my opinion, the OP my be done with his decision but many others will be contemplating it. I know I still am.............. Goes to show people do use the search feature!
