Hello Everyone I'm toying with an idea for a track car and if anyone has any information or ideas, feel free to chime in. I am a big fan of the 65-75 year cars, but also a fan of awd cars. Well I had the bright idea of wanting to combine the awd with a muscle car. The maverick being 2700lbs its small and light and I can make it lighter So I'm thinking of taking my 70 maverick and dropping in a (B5) 2002 S4 quattro 6cyl Bi-turbo with all the drive train and such. (like Blocks hoonicorn but cheaper) Upon some research both the 2002 audi S4 (B5) and maverick have the same wheel base of 103 in. The audi is 72.8" wide while the maverick is 70.5" wide. and the audi is 176.5" long and the maverick is 179.4". The dimensions are pretty close for a swap which means drive shafts and other components can remain stock. I know there will be a lot...lot of fab work but I'm no stranger to fab. What are your opinions to seeing a 450 hp (with turbo upgrade) AWD 70 maverick tearing up the track or street?

I've thought along the same lines too, just imagined a GM a-body with Syclone/Typhoon drive train rather than the Maverick.

I'm a big fan of crazy mods and cool modern stuff in a classic body. I wanted a jag indie rear suspension for My 91 S-10 after I upgraded the steering to a Z65 steering gear box and Jeep steering shaft.

My fantasy build would be a Pro-Touring style 67 Galaxie with over 500 HP and AWD.
Maybe a few years after I finish the Maverick...

    That would be cool.
Could you do a similar build with a Maverick and an AWD Mountaineer? or is that really 4wd?

It's all in the transfer case, get the right one and the rest can be made to work.

Does Ford make a vehicle with AWD, not 4WD, that fits a traditional front engine-rear wheel drive chassis?
GM made AWD versions of the Astro/Safari that are not 4WD that could be used if I was wanting an AWD 70's Nova or G-body.
Chrysler makes some AWD stuff, but it is based on the FWD transverse mounted engine layout.
