I've never seen a widened Chevelle. Its not that the cars handle better, its that they are more popular platforms here than the Maverick. So there are more of them built to handle. The Maverick is starting to come around though. We may not be building wide-body kits but with technology and products available its not all that necesary either. There are a couple projects on this site and others where the Mav is bein gbuilt to handle. I can fit a 275-35/18 under the front of mine by trimming the fender lip and getting the backspacing perfect.
Well needless to say, your car is freaking awesome, and you're one of the few that doesn't drive straight line only. I know I've read your threads. Maybe you're right about the new technology, so perhaps wide bodies and flairs are old school, or cheap ways to fit wide tires and achieve better handling? Some of those cars REALLY look cool though.
javelin is not widened.thats its original wheel wells thier widened that way from the factory.he's mini tubbed that car.i own a 71 sst that from the outside looks exactly like that.i do love the look of my javelin luv those fender well humps!
As the old saying goes.. "wider is better" from a handling standpoint.. whether it be from using excessively wide wheels or wider rearends. The bigger benefit from massive flares like the Maverick racecar shown at the beginning of the thread is that it potentially allows both to be used for maximum effect. Not sure if that car also made use of relocated mounting points for that rearend.. but widening the mounting points will also increase the handling potential as well. Form follows function.
