Steering box is different, has solid shaft that's around 3ft long the steering wheel mounts on to, plus bolt pattern to frame rail is different... Tie rod pin size increased with true '70 models(in all Ford/Mercury models)... The center link is probably too long and some of the early stuff had 1" shaft on steering box to mount pittman arm(all later stuff after '67 is 1 1/8")...

    Yeah never easy...

You'd also have to consider idler arm configuration, there are three separate versions for Mav/Comet('70-'72, '73-'74 & '75-'77, the late arms are same as Granada), I don't think any are close enough to work for the other... Some have pin in ctr link, others have hole with bushing... Any year setup will work as long as you have matching components, I have a '77 P/S setup on mine...

I'm in the same boat but finding a manual pitman arm for a 1974 comet seems to be impossible. I found an entire front steering kit for 75-77. Would it work since its the entire kit or would I just need to get a different idler arm?

I have a 1974 comet. Holley sniper fuel injection, MSD Ignition, hooked headers, 4 speed toploader, posi rear

I have all the steering parts from a '77 Maverick in my Comet, idler arm is specific to '75-'77 linkage.

Should be easy to find, Granada used same one.

If you get all the parts from a 1975-1977.....it will work.
