thanks, i found this in mustang unlimited...'65-'70 conversion kit. it utilizes the existing control valve end housing, seal clamp and ball stud for original appearance....$64.95 i think i will order this and see what it is. if it works then i saved a buck or two...frank...
I paid $130ish for mine including shipping. I'll put it this way, I can't see ever going back to power assist. The car is so much tighter now it really doesn't feel the same.
Thanks guys, I needed this part. I just ordered the one from American Pony for 99.90. I'll let you know how it works. -Erick
It is nothing more than a control valve with the control valve portion removed and blocked off with a screw in plug. The control valve is spring loaded to control the power assist, the manual adaptor has no spring. Both have the grease fitting in the same location. It could easily be made from the stock control valve with a rebuild kit and the a large (7/8 or so) plug.
74 How can I do it with the stock control valve, what do I need to do to get rid of the powersteering pump and the play from the valve?
ok boys and girls, i went to mustang unlimited today with my bride. while i was gone my boy (chris) took the power steering off the mav. i went to get the conversion piece for the swap. they have a plug kit for your valve.$65 bucks. i was going to get headers also but they were out of stock. chris didn't know this so he went ahead and cut the pipes out from under the car and pulled the stock manifolds off . he's such a good boy... on the way home he called and asked me to pick up a set of pads for his front brakes on his truck...he had the brakes pulled and was waiting for pads... i know i was gone a few hours.. but i wasn't gone all day... when i got home he did his brake job and i did the mod. on the valve. this is one i pulled off at the junk yard yesterday...i have it ready and will put it on tomorrow...then try to put everything back so i can test drive the no power set up...pics. in next post...frank...
does it matter what year it's going on? or will that work on all of theme? The american pony one that is.
david, not sure about the year thing. they had no year one the parts i got....strange you mention ...american pony...the package i got the parts from ...mustang unlimited had ...american pony..on it...frank...
Did that kit get rid of the back and forth play that the knuckle had in the power setup? IE the piece that sticks up throught the rubber with the nut on top. I assume that big screw/plug in the side forces everything to stay still, but give a bit of adjustment?
scooper, "I assume that big screw/plug in the side forces everything to stay still, but give a bit of adjustment?"...NOT !! the two solid cyls. are put into the valve then the heavy duty spring....i don't know what the big bolt does.. i am putting the valve on as we speak...let you know what happens...frank...
WELL I CHANGED MY MIND... i didn't put the valve on..i think i will wait untill i get the headers on...another post...frank...
