Can you shim it to eliminate the binding?

Is the striker not quite positioned right? If it's not quite sitting right it could take an extra hard slam to get it to latch, but hold the latch too tight for it to open properly.

Yes. It's not a striker issue. The latch will not function when bolted in, but will function when not in the car...

I don't fully remember it's been a few years, but I believe just bolt it in and run a wire to a momentary switch under the dash. I can take a look Monday and post a picture

You have to grind around the pivot rod a little to shift it to the passenger side like 1/4 in. Otherwise yes

I installed and wired up one of these when I did my build. Mine went right in with no modification.

I could never find a switch that would fit in the bottom lip of the dash. So, I never hooked it up. Some '80-'90s cars use to have a small push button switch in the glove compartment that was even marked trunk release. I have not seen any in the junkyards.

I would be interested in seeing what you guys are using for the switch and how it is mounted.

I just used a cheap momentary switch from O'Reilly's. Found a pre-existing hole under the dash and enlarged it a size or 2 to fit the switch

Those are the ones I remembered. Were you able to get them into any existing holes in the dash? If not, how did you mount them? Just looking for some ideas.
