Looks great, John. The comparison shots really make the Powder Coating stand out. Our long lost friend, Pegasus, was going to Powder Coat his entire exterior - one day. 'Never knew what became of it.
The powder coater here does entire cars. They said they are generally factory new race car shells ... they mainly do Porche's for road racing. He said you cannot get a show quality ... or factory quality looking paint job from powder coat. He said most guys powdercoat the entire shell ... and then prep the external surfaces and use standard autopaint. This way the cars can get chips and scratches during road racing but the powder coat shows through and you never see the chips and scratches.
That is pretty enough for me to coat a set of bumpers and just pass on chrome plating. I bet it would be MUCH cheaper.
I got the other A-arm done. Along with a pulley for Matt. Custom one-off-color. Did some more sandblasting....gonna get more coated soon.
Becky, said you were taking parts off the house and powder coating them. is this true, if so is it because you are running out of car parts to coat? L.F.F.
That does look awesome. How did you get the gunk off? At work, we wire wheel stuff like that, then scrub it down with Purple Power and pressure wash it. It's time consumeing, dirty, work.
wire wheeled it, then sandblasted it, then baked it, then washed it. Then coated it. yes it is very time consuming and very dirty.....but much like body work before paint. It sets the finish.
I have just about got the entire disc brake assembly done. I will post some more pretty pictures soon.
So how much will the weight of all that powder coating add to your times on the track? I bet that will look great!
John how thick is the coating? Just curious if it causes any clearance problems with added thickness such as on seat tracks etc..
