I have a leeky cowl vent. Were I live i have been getting heavy rain. Every heavy rain i get i have to pull out the shop vac. and vacume all of the water out of the carpet. This is a pain cause i recently Forgot to pick up my floor mat. so the manager at a do it your self car wash has it and i need to call him. Are there any quick effective ways to fix it without having to get a welder and pull apart the front clip.
the quick fix is to cover your cowl vent!! to prevent any more water in the car. what I did was cut a template out of thin card board and then used black color adhisive vynil (used for making sign's , posters, ect... ) printer type and covered the vents from the edge of raised portion of the hood to the other side of the edge. then I removed all rust from both sides to bare metal and covered it with fiberglass!! no more laeks
it all depends were you live!! tomorrow I'm checking out a 1972 maverick for sale!! 1,200 to around 2,500 is about average for a running maverick with no mayor issues. the only maverick worth big bucks is the stallion 1976 !! and that depends on a lot of factors! hell I was glad to see a mercury comet in the aug.06 issue of hot rod magazine sold at $10,260, with 27,000-miles. I purchased my car for 200.00 USD!! all it had wrong was the ignition module, a garage queen with 42,000-miles all original.
My 73 Maverick also came from California and I have found that both wheel wells in the trunk were totally rusted out along with the door skins and the kicker plates
I bought mine for $200, at the time knowing nothing about Mavericks or any other Fords. I found a 30 year old 2 door american car with 100% solid floor pans and rear quarters and said "wow Iam buying this!". That car could have had no engine and I still would have paid dubble for it. It had the usuall maverick rot under the hood lip, the corners of the front fenders infront of the doors and a small hole was revealed when I pulled the vynal top, like I said, nothing major.I guess I lucked out with the cowl, never thought to check but it hasnt given me a problem so I guess Im good. You have to remember that these are unibody cars so rust can have a major effect on the integrity of the car along with any accident history it may have. A maverick cant recover as easily from a hit the way a full framed car can.
I have recently bought a 76 Ford Maverick. There is lots of rust. I work at a metal fabricating shop and plan on replacing the Unibody parts with new one. Does any have or has anyone found a diagram/blueprint on them. I can make one from the parts I take off, but the original specs would be so much better. Any help would be appreciated.
