Thanks for the energized conversation, guys. Yes, it was with Ford Motorsports that I talked and they didn't have any application for what we are talking about. I believe they were simply looking at their database and had never laid a wrench on our kind of cars. They had headers for a Maverick/Comet. They had headers for a Mustang with a GT 40p. They had nothing for a Comet with a GT 40p. The Hedman tech line told me the same and sent me a similar email. Thus, the real, permanent and best fix is: do not use GT 40p heads in a Maverick/Comet... or so it seems to me. I want a quality fix, not a duct tape fix, so to speak. So I will be buying a set of GT 40 (non p) today. There are some good ones on Ebay. This has been a good debate. Others will bring this up on the website in future days and benefit. Mavericks and Comets live on!
I have RPM Pro-Action heads on my 1972 Grabber. The spark plug is at a goofy angle compaed to stock. I could not get my Doug Thorley shorty headers to work. I took my car to the muffler shop. With a little heat, they were able to tweak the tubes enough to get the spark plugs to clear. I then had to send my headers out and have them ceramic coated again. (They come ceramic coated from the factory, the heating/tweaking did a number on them. I had them both done so they would match)
Here's what Chirt used for his P heads, read his comments on the heads also. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=654395
