This looks like a fun little project, what else did you find wrong with the rear that you removed it? What's your end goal for this car? Driver? show car?

Will be a drive with the hopes to mess with the new big boys. The list is long that I found wrong. Front and rear leaf spring bushing where long gone, flex brake line that I'm suprised held fluid, 2 bad wheel bearings( drivers side was full of water where the bearing sits), and of course the shoes had no friction material left. I bought a rear out of a 76 Mav that I have been cleaning and slowly rebuilding. Do some more cleaning and undercoating the body then it's time to start reassembly.

Just picked up a C4 today and started to do some reading and now more confuse before I started lol. I know it's a C4 it came out of a 80's mustang. Not sure what engine it was behind but it was rebuilt not to long ago. No buck tag on it to tell it real home from the factory. The number on the rear of the main case are"D4ZP7A040" and the number above the shift lever are"D4DP-7006-AA". Can anyone help me figure out what I have by these numbers.

If it came with a 250auto you already have a c4.thats what should have been in the car.

Yes it is the 6 with c4 from factory but I picked another one up for helping a grind strip a car for dirt track raceing. He said it was rebuilt. Just not sure for Behing what motor. I'm installing it with a 302 and don't want to pull the trans again if I burn it up because it's for a 4 banger.

D4 indicates a 1974 part#.... apparently it's the same part # into the 80's. I believe there should be a separate tag on the transmission that would help identify what engine it came with. does it have one still on it?

*edit* according to D4DP...the transmission was originally out of a Maverick. At least according to this source: http://www.network54.com/Forum/260730/thread/1172590294/trans-+ID

No tags, they must have been removed on the rebuild. It has the push in style modulator, dip stick in the case not pan, and it is case fill. It also had a floor shifter on the floor, the link sticks up not down.

From what I read and somewhat understand is that the black trans came from a truck and is pan fill. The other 2 are from a car line and is case fill. All three are 1971 and newer models.

Ok, I have been looking for the battery tray with the lower support. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Or if you have a rust free one you would like to part with send me a PM.
