No. I found a perfect set of 1990 Mustang GT buckets. They have a bit more support then the stock seats.

 

Dash project

Here is what I have been spending most of my time on lately, the dash. Several things are going on here. Number one is that I like a clean looking dash. I grew up as a street rodder and always liked the look of a nice, smooth, clean and uncluttered dash. I don't really care for the factory Maverick shelf either, so I eliminated it. I got some steel bent up for a lower panel. It is now drilled for the new headlight and wiper switches on the left of the steering column cut out. On the right of the column will be the new ignition switch and the radio. As you can see on the dash I welded up the holes for the headlights and wiper as well as the ashtray. I was really really unsure of what to do with the gauge layout until I saw what a member on here did with his. Sorry I don't remember his name. Kusstom? I think?? Anyway, he made his out of fiberglass which may be the way to go. However I work with steel, so that's what I did. Here all the parts are down to bare metal waiting ntil tomorrow when I will epoxy them and then spray on a few coats of nice high build primer surfacer. Then the mud work! All in all I am really happy with the way it all came out.

Very nice work. I'm also planning to move my headlight and wiper switch somewhere else, maybe to a console. I am planning to fill my heater controls too and come up with a different heater on/ off switch and high/low fan switch. My heater box doors will be operated by new cables(maybe Lokar) mounted elsewhere.

 

I would weld up the hole and move the heater controls somewhere else in a minute. But being they are manual I have not been able to come up with a better solution than the stock controls. So for now I am going to stay as is. I can always change it later if I find a better idea.

My car is originally a non-air car so the heater controls match up with the original non-air heater box. But now I'm using an air-box just as a heater/defroster box simply because I no longer want my blower motor sticking into the engine bay through the firewall. The air-box keeps the blower inside the car. Because of this new configuation, the stock dash controls no longer match the air-box selector doors anyway so now is my chance to make a custom setup.

Awesome as usual!!! It's cool to see a street rodder, doing a Maverick. I would hope that someday, we can do to our cars, what people have been doing to Model a's for years (we're getting there). There is some pretty neet street rod stuff, that gets missed with the "restomod" people.

 

Since my last update I have taken the dash parts to the booth for a coat of etch primer, followed by several coats of a high build epoxy primer. I let them sit for a week and then started block sanding everything. Then the mud work. They are now in a urethane primer and bolted back into the car. I think it all came out good.

You will notice inn the dash that I welded up the headlight and wiper switches as well as the ash tray. They are now all smoothed off and looking clean. The lower panel is drilled for the headlights and wiper to the left of the column and the ignition and radio to the right.

Thank you for sharing your build with everyone. Your Mav is looking great. I have been part of several builds growing up. But now at 40 I realize I have never done one for myself. So I have decided on a Maverick as well. Looking through your thread has been very inspiring and I hope you don't mind, I may copy a couple ideas. I may even contact you if thats alright as things come up. I would like to drop in a 351W so getting rid of the shock towers are on the to-do list. But first things first. I have to find the car first. Thanks again and good luck.

That dash looks really good, now you might be causing me more work on mine.....
