Project "Therapy Sessions" 1972 Maverick

Well...... I just realized I have not updated this thread in months. So much has happened and final details added. The car is now done. Or at least as done as I want it to be, but are they ever really done?!

With the help of great friends and the support of an awesome wife and two amazing daughters.... I made it to the show! For anyone that has been following along you know that I have been building towards and planning on getting this project done in time for its debut, for lack of a better term, at the Boston World of Wheels ISCA show. Through health issues that have been plaguing me for months, bad weather predictions and just an overall sense of blah. I did it. My wife kept pushing me to get the car there and reach my goal. She knows how hard I have worked and how long I have been planning on this show. To have missed it would have been heartbreaking. She is a trooper and fully supports all my car related interests. Thank heavens for that. When not feeling up to snuff and on the verge of not going, she kept pushing me, as well as 3 of my good friends that took time out of their lives and traveled the two hours to Boston to help me get in the show and set up the display. Great friends = Priceless.

Now keep in mind, this car was not built to be a Show Car. It was built to drive, and drive it I will. But, being fresh I wanted to show it off. This may very well be the first and last indoor show it ever does.

So, how did it go you ask? Well, I was absolutely blown away by the response the car got from spectators, participants and even the judges that took the time to check it out, ask questions and showed appreciation for what I did.

At the end of the show and the awards ceremony I took home five different awards.

First in class.
Outstanding Custom.
Outstanding Undercarriage.
Outstanding Display.

And the one I will forever cherish the most....

The Master Builder Award. This goes to the best car that was built with little to no outside help. Meaning, home built.

I walked out of the awards ceremony stunned to say the least. Here are some pics of it at the show.

 

That car is beyond stunning. Well deserving of all those awards! Well done sir!

 

My hat is off to you and your beautiful Maverick. You well deserve the awards for all your hard work and fine workmanship thankyou for sharing your journey with us. I have enjoyed your build and hope to start my maverick soon.

 

Congrats Glenn, glad the journey is over and now its time to enjoy it. I see many more awards coming your way but being able to drive it is more of a reward then all the trophies it will get because if it is not driven then it is just another dust collector sitting around.

The cool thing about all this that blew a lot of minds is that someone put together a Maverick at the highest level. I will bet this really stood out because it wasn't a Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger. And by the way, this car is totally detailed out. Don't try to downplay this..... You teach people how to paint. And this car is a showcase of your work.

I am such a guy that wants to pass my car off as "pseudo-original", and not so much into customs, but I LOVE THIS CAR! Well done!!!!!!

What ever health challenges you are facing, if you want to talk, PM me. I've been through some stuff myself and counsel people going through the same. If nothing else, I can help get you pointed in the right direction. The fact that you finished the car says a lot. I did a lot to mine when I was in pretty rough shape. I got a lot done. Can't say that lately.... lol . Been too busy kicking ass at work.

Wow.. words don't even do you or that car enough justice. Glad to see you finally reaping the rewards, and awards, for all that hard work, Glenn!

PS. knowing how much work and hours you have in that body/paint.. I'd be afraid to drive it! Everyone behind me would wonder why I'm following 34 car lengths behind the cars in front of me! LOL

 

Hey Glenn, I was meaning to email you, one of the online magazine/news letters I subscribe to had your car as the "headline". Amazing car! I thought in the article I saw, your car had the stripes, or was I seeing things? I know they were going to be a close shade blue so I might have been looking at the pics through eyes that expected them to be there.

 

Awesome job Glenn! As you know I've been watching this build from the beginning and it definitely has inspired me to get moving on my build after talking about it for years. I look forward to seeing more on this car in the future as you're enjoying it at car shows etc. Prayers for you to get your health issues worked out.

 

I need a new screen saver, Glenn! Would be awseome to see a high-res straight on low vantage point shot of your car when the weather turns for those outdoor events. Remember some of us dreamers still need inspiration too! lol

I would like to thank each and every one of you for the comments, compliments and for just following along. This build took far longer than I wanted it to. But time is a precious thing when a regular job, family, home and every other thing all are fighting for their time too. It has been a long road to get to this stage. I'm juts glad to be here and ready to start enjoying the fruits of all my labor.
