These cars won't pass the Mercedes-Benz ball bearing test. Considering how they were built...and when....it is just the way they are.
Gotta remember too...Parts were manufactured and categorized by tolerance into lots. "A" lot parts being the tightest in tolerance...Then B and C. This played a big part in how well everything fit together. put a "C" door on an "A"lot body assy and you will go nuts trying to get the gaps to look good. This is why some cant get a door/hood to line up well. This rule applies to all american auto manufacturers since the dawn of the assembly line. 38 to 40 yrs of service and age also figure prominently into why measurments dont add up. My blu mav has given me fits as well getting some of the original panels to fit better or just fit during re-assembly...Your not alone man...Besides, with your skill and experience Glenn, You'll whip that steel into shape. You know....I was just thinking, I haven't updated this in some time. In February I had a friend bring his $80k 32 Ford roadster over for a few touch ups. Well, have you heard of Murphy's Law? We ended up having to strip the entire car of all it's paint. It had been painted four times! The paint literally blew off the quarter panel with a blow gun. That was not a happy moment!! I just finished the last of the buffing on Sunday and he now has all 14 of the painted body parts. It took 18 hours of taping and painting over two days for all the parts, and no less than 25 hours of sanding and buffing. As nice as the paint came out, this is a trailer queen show car. The way it came out of the booth any one of us here on the forum would have been happy with it. But not this guy and not this car. I started sanding with 1000, then 1200, then 1500, then 2000, then 3000 Trizact. Then the 4 steps of buffing. Physically not much has changed on the car. I have been picking up things for it. I just got a polished Ford Motorsports EFI intake for it. A new polished Stainless T stat housing, and I have the AOD out getting rebuilt. I just this week ordered the new mirrors that I will be using, as well as sub frame connectors. Next weekend I am taking my 47 Ford and the 55 Chevy to the NSRA Nats East in York, Pa. I am hoping to sell the 47, I do expect to come home with it. Not many people with an extra 40k right now. While at the show I will be buying a new steering wheel, E brake lever/ handle from Lokar, A Lokar shifter, window cranks and a few other odds and ends for the Maverick. Have you ever heard of Engineered Components Inc? The disc brake company? I am really good friends with the owner. He has fabricated a stand off bracket that will mount to the stock holes on the firewall on one end, and on the other will bolt to his brake booster and master cylinder. You have got to love having friends that will take the time and energy to do that for you and not have their hand out looking for something in return! Good friends are priceless. I have someone that is doing a digital rendering of the Maverick for me and hope to be able to post it up here in a few weeks. I was able to give him all my plans with pics etc and he turns that into a beautiful color rendering. Stay tuned.... Glenn

Yes, that is the car. That was before the nightmare started. Now that the 32 is gone I will be able to make some real progress on the Mav.

Thanks for all the compliments on the project! I have not been able to put any time on it lately, and now I have a 70 Chevelle coming in for a repaint. Once that is done, I have another quick project to do for my dad. He just bought a new Challenger and wants it painted. Shouldn't take long. Then, hard core on the Maverick. In the mean time I have been buying up parts for it. I am doing everything in my power to help stimulate the economy!! Here are a couple pictures with the new injection and the new Ford Racing headers. I have also picked up new interior door handles as well as new outside mirrors. I will be selling the sport mirrors. I also have a little custom idea that I have come up with for the doors that I think some of you will love and find unique. I will post up pics of that when the time comes.
In the mean time I have been buying up parts for it. I am doing everything in my power to help stimulate the economy!! Looking good keep at it. I have been emptying my bank account working on my maverick. Just keep reminding yourself its going to be worth it to see it finished.
do u know if you can get the belt drive brackets without the pulleys, i have a set that are similar but they are junk
